[float][IMG][/float] Tennessee Titans wide receiver O.J. Murdock committed suicide this morning in front of the Tampa high school he graduated from, according to the Tampa Police Department. He was 25 years old.

According to a news release distributed by the Tampa police, Orenthal James Murdock was found in his car at approximately 8:30 a.m. in front of Middleton High School. He had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

Murdock was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m.

After Murdock did not report to the Titans’ training camp last week, coach Mike Munchak said Murdock had been excused for “personal reasons.” No details have emerged of the issues that Murdock was dealing with.

An undrafted free agent who signed with the Titans out of Fort Hays State last year, Murdock missed the entire season with an Achilles injury. Murdock began his college career at South Carolina, where he played for two years and was a teammate of Kenny McKinley, a Denver Broncos wide receiver who committed suicide in 2010.

Sucks. It's probably best that it killed him. My brother knows a guy who attempted suicide by gunshot to the head.. He's now in a nursing home at 30. Blind and deaf. He thought his life sucked before...

This is really sad guys, doesn't sit me well.

That last part makes you think. Being All-State even more, All-Country, can really make you think your dreams are becoming reality and that a long and illustrious professional career awaits you in the NFL. Forward a bit to 2012 and O.J. is fighting to stay on a team. Sure it could have been some personal thing but I think it has more to do with football or the near future's lack of.

I remember a Poll somewhere saying 'should college kids get a slice of the pie' and it got me thinking. I'm not saying a bit of money woulda stopped him from doing that, but if the possibility exists that it might, then by all means give them some of the 'pie.'

I can only imagine what its like working so hard for something and being so good at it for literally your whole life - its not hard to think that thought can push some people over the edge.

    Sad, very sad indeed.

    RIP O.J.

Sad to hear this. The guy had potential if he could have just hung in there. To many guys come in to the NFL their rookie year get hurt, put to the side to heal and then ultimately get forgotten as it is. Can't imagine what kind of a psychological toll that could take on someone.

Where was dude's agent when all this stuff was going down and hadn't shown up for camp yet? These agents are really pissing me off, all about the money and in their ear before they sign, then don't give a rats about them afterwards. Dude needed help, was emotionally incapable of adversity and he didn't have anyone around? Sad
