Guys don't worry about the QB battle. I promise everyone reading this that Locker WILL be our guy mid-way thru the season. I love Locker and hope he's the guy, but if he's not, Hasselbeck can play for a month or two then get hurt.

This is actually what I expected to happen.

Hass may get the job, but by mid season we will start seeing Locker.

If we expect Hasselbeck to either suck or get hurt midway through the season like last year, then don't you think our coaching staff sees that as a likely possibility? Do you think they would want to make a QB change mid season? That would not only probably cost the team the season, but it could also hurt Locker's development. The coaches need to show locker that they trust him. They need to hand him the keys from game one. The QB is the leader of the team, and it does nothing but hurt the team when you switch out the leader midway. QB is not an interchangeable position. The QB needs to be chosen before game one. Thankfully I think this coaching staff has a clue, and they know how to build a winning team. They will not let there be any QB changes happen. That was Fisher's mentality and that is gone now. You could tell that by the fact that they didn't make a QB change last season when we all knew that Locker was the better option. Munch has said that their will NOT be a QB controversy this season. Does anyone think that Hasselbeck will last the entire season without getting hurt, while still playing at 100% by playoff time? Hasselbeck is not reliable, and I think this coaching staff knows that. They will not start Hasselbeck knowing that. Locker is the obvious choice the way this team is moving. Starting Hasselbeck will only be a step back.

    Scenario 1

We know the beginning of the season is going to be rough no matter who starts, so if we go into the season with the philosophy of start Hass and pull him when he gets "injured" then most likely Hass will lead the team to a 1-4 or 2-3 start, get injured then Locker goes in. Now we have to get Locker acclimated to the NFL game as a full time NFL starter which could take a few weeks easily. By the time the offense is hitting full stride, we are probably 9 or 10 games in, and fighting for a chance at a wild card at the end of the season if we are lucky.

    Scenario 2

We know that the beginning of the season is going to be rough no matter who starts so we go ahead and throw in Locker. Locker makes his mistakes, and learns from them on his way to a 1-4 or 2-3 start (same as with Hass). But Locker is already acclimated to starting in the NFL and the offense is ready to start hitting its stride about 5 or 6 games in. We win a few more games in this scenario, and probably have a shot at the Div.

And some people are acting like Hass was lighting teams up last year ... Hass put up good numbers for Warren Moon's day but in TODAY'S game those numbers are very average. Andy Dalton and Mark Sanchez put up similar numbers to Hass last year, and I doubt anyone here would want to bring them in to play ahead of Locker.

This team could've been a playoff team last year, but it wasn't. A Great Qb would've put the team on their shoulders and taken us to the playoffs ... he didn't do that. In fact in several games he was holding the team back by trying to dink and dunk the ball every drive ... Do some of you not remember how frustrating it was to go 3 and out every drive for an entire half??? For me the Colt's and Bengals games are the 2 games that really stick out. Both games had major playoff implications, and Hass was not able to pull either one out. That is where the 'experience' should be paying off ... it didn't.

I really wish people would stop using injuries as an excuse too. Injuries are part of the game, and players play through them all the the time. Big Ben beat us with a broken foot, HB could not even beat the Colts with a much lesser injury. HB's performance in the Colts game was inexcusable, injured or not.

I agree with you that HB's experience was huge for us last year with all the changes that were happening and no off season, esp. in the beginning, but the key phrase being last year. This year we do have an offseason, this year the offense isn't new, and this Locker isn't a rookie.

This is the NFL. You don't keep your job simply by having 'experience' (unless JF is the coach). If there is a young guy behind you, esp a 1st round pick, you have to play lights out week in and week out in order to keep the young guy on the bench. Hass was given plenty of time to prove that he should be the guy, and he didn't. He played inconsistent all year long, and in the end couldn't win the games he needed to in order to make the playoffs. You don't sit your 1st round QB for that kind of play. You get the young guy on the field, and see if he is actually 'the guy'.

IMO this 'competition' won't really be a competition. It will have nothing to do with Hass, and everything to do with Locker. If Locker shows he is ready to handle playing in the NFL, then he will play. If not it will be Hass. I fully expect Locker to be the guy week 1

He was never brought here to "be they guy." He was brought here to be a bridge. then a mentor. Well folks, we're on the other side of the river. Its mentor time.

I agree with the second part. Unless Locker looks horrible in preseason, he'll get the nod.
