So when did this Flynn guy become a great QB? And why in the h311 would he be worth giving up so much for?

Just because he's Aaron Rodgers backup doesn't mean he's gonna even be any good much less great. That said, I could definitely see a stupid team like the Redskins paying up to get him.

What did Arizona give up for Kolb? Quite a bit......

Flynn recently set the single game passing record for a Packer, granted the Packers have had some pretty sub par quarterback:suspect:

Kolb mostly likely just caught teams off guard by going from a superb scrambling quarterback to an average pocket passer.

Green Bay has a ton of weapons though, I am not sure what is all on his shoulders. I can see why he is getting some attention.

Look at what teams traded for guys like Matt Schaub, Matt Cassel and Kevin Kolb and it's easy to figure out what the Packers could get for Flynn (although the situation is complicated by the fact that he is set to be a FA). The market for guys like these is set at a 2nd round pick + something else (either a starting player or more picks).

Franchise quarterbacks are very, very hard to find. Promising backups are worth a ton in the trade market. It doesn't always work out, but there is almost always a team willing to take a shot on these guys.

Also, another name to watch in a very similar situation is Brian Hoyer in New England. It probably won't happen this year, but I would not be at all surprised if some team traded for him after the 2012 season. He is highly thought of around the league and he is expendable to New England because they drafted Ryan Mallett (and Brady isn't going anywhere).

I understand how the market has been set by Schaub and Kolb, I get that. I don't think that just because they've shown flashes of greatness in very limited playing time doesn't always mean they'll be as good on another team with totally different weapons. Kevin Kolb is a perfect example. Looking back, AZ gave up way too much for him.

Yeah, I think everyone around the league would agree with what you're saying. But a lot of teams face the choice of overpaying for a shot at finding a franchise QB or beginning yet another season without that player and without that hope. At some point, you need to accept that you aren't gonna be dealt two aces and go all in with a weaker hand and the hopes that it will work out for you. There will always be a team willing to take that shot.

Matt Flynn risk-reward is to great to pass on.

Sure you can draft a guy but you don't know how he will be in the pros with only Robert Griffin and Andrew Luck looking like the only standouts in this draft class it looks like the rest are projects. With so many QB needy teams, and what you say with Flynn you see he has potential to be NFL starting caliber.

Granted packer system could be QB friendly, and they do have weapons. However, what he accomplished still require recognition. A reunion in Miami with his Offensive Coordinator where he shined in his limited action where he will have Brandon Marshall to throw to.

The Packers could franchise him, but they bare the risk of not being able to strike a deal than you will have to sit on Flynn and pay him the franchise tag on top of Rodgers salary. It is a gamble, it all depends if they feel prominent enough that a trade will likely occur. With Kevin Kolb performance in Arizona might make some teams a little weary of spending the money.

My mistake then. I thought he had missed the entire season this year. Feel free to substitute random top level DE who was injured most/all this season.

The point is, Mario still plays at a top level when he's healthy. He was averaging a sack per game this year before going down with injury.

Flynn has been one of the leagues best kept secrets for just over 2 years now. He's got everything you want in a starting QB; size, speed, smarts, arm, desire to be great, etc.... I would have loved to get Flynn had we not drafted Jake Locker last year. IMO he's better than Schaub, Cassel, and Kolb.

Better than Schaub? I find that unlikely. The last 3-4 years in the league, Schuab has been among the top 6 QBs or so regular season QBs.
