It sucks to like a team where we lose key players year after year but losing Finny would really suck. He's one of my top 3 favorite Titans ever, right behind Steve and Eddie. With Verner and McCourty, I think the writing was on the wall for him.

I think their Play was more valuable than their leadership.
Bulluck played on some poor defenses in his time here. He was there for the 59-0 defeat if I remember correctly. I don't think much has suffered since his departure, and I think keeping him around would have not been a smart move.

Mawae was just a great player for a long time. He was a stud here and we didn't really recognize it until we brought in his shoddy backups.

The only way to excuse letting Finnegan walk would be to upgrade every other position on defense... DE, OLB, SS, FS. We need all of those regardless of Finnegan staying or leaving.

It'll break my heart to see the little man leave. Has been one of my favorite players since we drafted him. The heart and leadership he brings to this team is invaluable. Under no circumstances should we let him walk; expect for Kearse & Haynesworth (which was actually a smart move) all the other defensive players we let go were in their 30s and on the decline. Finnegan is only 27 and has quite a few years left in his prime.

Finnegan is my favorite Titan of all time and I would be disappointed beyond all belief is he were to leave. That being said I seriously doubt he gets any type of Asomugha or Revis offers. My guess is we could probably sign him for somewhere around what Johnathan Joseph got from Houston. 5 years 52 million with 25 gaurrenteed. Get it done F/O.

((Interesting note: If the Titans lose Finny and the Washington Nationals don't resign Ryan Zimmerman both of my favorite teams would lose my favorite players on each team inside of a calender year.))

I think they'll try to re-sign Cortland. It might be a 4, even a 5-year deal on the surface. I think the FOs reluctance stems from being somewhat guarded about his behavior, but his last extension was 4 years and it's easy enough to make a deal a practical 2 or 3 year deal regardless of max potential, if that's a true concern.

I don't think the Titans have do anything but make a solid deal. They can somewhat best a Joseph contract on the guarantee end, which I think is reasonable. The problem I see on value is Finnegan had a couple of inconsistent years and is a part-time nickleback. And if going forward he's going to play in that position at all, then that must be taken into account.

Gray will want him, I'm sure, and without him, we are probably an injury or development-stall away from mediocrity back there. We've enough of that with our safety play the majority of the time. Finnegan shows the same or more value in this new system as he did in the last. That's a good sign.

As far as others, I think Babineaux is a relatively cheap sign, on the $3-4M/year range at the most, no more than 3 years. And no more than that. Can't use Hope's over-predicted contract as a measuring stick.

I'm afraid if Jason Jones goes to FA, then Mike Tomlin will make sure he's a Steeler, from his comments in the press this year and of course how Jones performed against them subbing for Haynesworth. Not really sure of his long-term value to us. Other than that, I'd like to have him only to have one less question. No one's rising to the top at the end spot yet. Give him another year at least in the new system.

Griffin I'm so lukewarm. I would like him to stay on the promise he'll return to pro bowl form, but there's no guarantee there.

In the end, I'd probably give Cortland a 5 year deal, Griffin and Jones a 3-year deal, and Babs a 1 or 2.

Part ways with Amano, Hope, Ruud, Marks, Graham, and Scott. I think eventually, at this rate, Velasco and Matthews get in there. Might as well pull the bandaid. This hasn't worked for 2 years. I dunno. Maybe it's just Amano and Harris. Amano is one of those who IMO has received much better than he's deserved. One of those moves that have limited the Titans both financially and strategically. This is the type of contract that screws us for a while. I say pull the bandaid on the O-Line after this season.

We'll have a lot of room to grow next season. After Finnegan and Jones, with Babineaux being a shoe-in, I see a lot of positions that could be up for grabs: C, RG, LG, DT, DE, WLB, S as well as depth spots.

We can blame Finny for the situation is he leaves because he had one of his worst seasons if not his worst last year and now in his contract year he is playing lights out.

I honestly think the best time to lock a player up is after they have had a bad year so you can get him cheaper. We had to know he would play his arse off this year.

Did somebody honestly think we should move a pro bowl CB to SS? :sad2:
