The amateurism is a lie. There is too much money in it for amateurism. The amateurism is there to stop people wondering why in the world Colt McCoy got a $50,000 education while Mac Brown is making millions. Let alone considering what conference and BCS execs make.


Sure, the amateurism label allows for the money from football to fund other school needs, but really...that's not for the students to be concerned with. And sure, paying your Cam Newtons presents a problem when it comes to your senior 3rd string QB, but hey...the reality of the world is that not all athletes are created equal. These guys really aren't amateurs.


Heck, the fact that they are trading athletics for any benefits should eliminate the use of the term amateurism.

What's the difference between playing for an education and playing for cars and money?

Nothing really, aside from the fact that one benefit is endorsed by public opinion while the others aren't. But it's all the same deal.


High school athletes are amateurs. Collegiate athletes are not.

 

"Amateurism" is a convenient family friendly label for institutional slavery.

If the guy was a cornerback you wouldn't care at all about what he had done in the past. He could have been a hit man for a gang and you would defend him.

Who on this thread is saying that one game proves that Newton will be a hall of fame player? I'm his biggest supporter and i have not said that.

What are you guys so afraid of? He doesn't play with a division rival he doesn't even play in our conference.

Why is it so important to you to bash or down play what he did? Why all the effort?

You guys seem really upset about all this. Enraged? This is really an important thing for you guys.

 

Well, that would be the point. Because he's the QB... the leader... the guy people look up to... the guy that takes the fall...

It's not about race, whether it's Cam or Mallet, they're going to get crucified.

If Cam was a corner, no one would care he threw a stolen laptop out the window. You solved your own mystery, thanks.

 

I haven't read the last 40 or so posts, but one thing that stands out to me...

Guys that are liked throw the ball where only the receiver can catch it. Guys that are maligned are inaccurate and benefit from the great plays of others.
