GM said if he comes to camp he will make him the highest paid RB in the league. Also, CJ has a deal through this year. Hence making him a holdout, not a free agent.

    Get your facts straight.

The Titans are ready to make Chris Johnson the highest-paid running back in NFL history -- all he has to do is show up at camp so they can finalize the deal.

"Again, we're willing to make him the highest paid running back in the history of the NFL. That's kind of where we are."

But why are they wanting him to show up first? Why don't they just make the deal with his agent, and then he would show up.

Because honestly, a lot of negotiation is body language. You can't read that on a phone, e-mail, or fax. What if it is true that the FO is thinking top RB money and CJ is thinking top QB money? With not reading body language, they are missing a huge tell on knowing how far apart they are. The FO's job is to offer a big enough contract to make CJ satisfied, but not overpay.

If they e-mailed/faxed/phoned an offer that was top RB and CJ wanted/expected more, he could just go to the media and say they lowballed him. At least face to face, negotiations have a tendency to move quicker.

If you were about to give millions of dollars to someone wouldn't you want to meet him in person?

I'm not sure how many times I have to say it, but the Titans are not going to be negotiating the deal with C.J. directly. That's not how this works. If the Titans are willing to sign him to a long-term deal that makes him the highest paid RB, all they have to do is make an offer to his agent. I don't know where this show up first crap came from, but that's not how holdouts work. Then again, the Titans seem to think things are different with them. They're not. Call his agent!

    Your kidding right?

Titans own CJs next 2 seasons of NFL service with an option on a third.

But I guess your right CJ could always go play for another non-NFL affiliated professional football league - lol

He already has a contract, which he is currently not honoring.
