I have no doubt the skill set physically is there for Mariani. Rarely in the NFL do we see the most physically gifted guys end up being the best WRs anyway. What usually sets the good ones apart is the feel for the game and being able to run crisp routes and catch the ball. I think Mariani has potential and it wouldn't be the first time we saw a late round WR shine.

I'd love to see some 4 WR sets with Hawk and Mariani in the slots.

Yeah. Except Andre Johnson. And Calvin Johnson. And Terrell Owens. And Randy Moss. And Larry Fitzgerald. And Kenny Britt. And Desean Jackson.

Yeah athleticism doesn't make receivers great at all....Randy Moss never walked routes, or dogged it out there....Oh wait...

Even though Moss has had a hall of fame career, it's still somewhat sad because with a small dose of work ethic, Moss would have gone down as the greatest player at his position.

Kenny Britt has become a top nfl WR? When? He hasn't even cracked 800 yards yet. Can we at least wait until he has a thousand yard season before including him in a list like that?

Randy Moss has his flaws but he's been a productive WR on every team he's played.

Until that is Jeff Fisher single handedly killed Moss career in 2010.

Woody was bang on about Fisher.

90% of us were stoked when we picked up Moss. Well Fisher shat all over that positivity.

My take on Mariani and Hawkins both is that since Gage will not be here and since we drafted no WRs and will unlikely sign one both will get one bump up on the depth chart. Any Udfa Wr will be on the practice squad if they show anything.

    Last year:
    Britt
    Washington
    Gage
    D-Will
    Hawkins
    Mariani

Gage's departure moves Hawkins up to 5th assuming he doesn't get passed by Mariani. So unless we have major injuries and or Washington is struggling don't expect Hawkins and Mariani to be on the same field.

    Why should they be?

Why? I'm not trying to be a smartass i would just like your reasons why 2 WRs who combined caught 5 passes last year are worth playing ahead of somebody like Jared cook.

You may be on to something with Mariani but i would like your reasons first.
