I think we should just put him in there. He is not in as bad of a position as Manning, A Smith, or Harrrington were thrown into, he's got a decent line, and some good skill position players.
Letting him sit for half a season is delaying the inevitable. About as bad as starting Collins in that half-season in '06 when VY should have been starting the whole time.

Plus, IMO we have (or have had) one of the most QB coddling offenses in the NFL. (ask 2008 Kerry Collins) He most likely won't be going in and gunslinging like Manning had to do his first few years. There are other pieces here. (though I would love to see us spread it out more)

Most high pick qbs are put onto teams with no line, and little skill at the WR/RB position, and you see what happens when they're put on teams with good talent (Roethlisberger)

Our only big gap on offense was QB, our big gaps are on defense.

I'd prefer Hasselbeck to Collins, but that seems unlikely since Washington didn't draft a QB. Bulger to Arizona is reported to be a done deal (it's under the table at this point).

As long as Collins is willing to be a mentor, I think he'll be fine. He claimed to be willing to help Vince, but Vince was unwilling to listen. I don't think that will be a problem with Locker.

Failing that, there's always a guy like Jake Delhomme. Not a good football player by any stretch, but he's been around the league and might have some stuff to teach a rookie.

I totally disagree. If a rookie comes in and isn't ready, then you have a QB who can lose confidence, the support of his teammates and, possibly, the fans. I want Locker to start when the coaches feel he's at the point where he gives the Titans as good a chance at winning as his backup. I don't want to see Locker come in, have a couple of "Rusty games" and the Titans go back to Collins (or whoever).

I go after Tyler Thigpen or Alex Smith. Both of them are young and mobile. Our offense with Locker is going to involve a bunch of rollout passes. Collins is too immobile to do that. We don't need 2 different offensive schemes. Get a young guy who is similar to Locker in style and could be a decent backup once Locker is ready.

Yes, you need a vet that can run things for a year or two before Locker can step in full time.

Locker needs time to fix his accuracy/footwork issues before you roll him out there.

I hope they use the Aaron Rodgers approach to installing a rookie qb... and I think they ought to make a real run Marc Bulger. Kerry Collins shouldn't even be considered. Honestly. I'd like to see Bulger with a 2 year, 15 million dollar deal.. that's reasonable, isn't it?

I'm expecting them to make a run at Hasselbeck. MH would get to play behind a good line for a year, possibly 2 if he does well and then get a chance to hang around as a backup once Locker gets the start. And if the injury bug continues w/ him then we might get a chance to see Locker early.
