Players choose to play the game for the ammount signed in their contracts... Owners are obligated by everything in those contracts. I dont see the problem.

I think they're both wrong, but I guess the owners just because of DeMaurice Smith

I'm neutral as far as sides go. I think there should be some negotiations made.

I don't think the rule changes should be put into effect. When you have players speaking out, you should look into the issue. The players know what their risks are, let them have a say in how the game's played.

I don't think there should be an 18 game season. The season should remain 16 games. If you don't want to have as many preseason games have intersquad scrimmages that the public can view for 2 games or something. Lengthening the season means more depleted teams come playoffs and more injuries in general. When your body gets worn down its more likely that an injury will occur.

As far as player compensation, I think less attention should be on individual player salaries and more on retirement plans and health benefits for players who play in the NFL. If you play 3 years in the NFL (or some arbitrary number) you should be able to retire on a decent salary and have good benefits. That salary could only be $75,000 a year, but atleast you don't have players going bankrupt.

I don't know what the numbers would be, but if I was the league, that's what I'd push for. I don't think the players are necessarily asking for more money individually, I think they're asking for more control over decisions (defenseless player, kickoff return) and more financial security.

I would kill to make the kind of money that AP or Manning makes!...

Suck it up and enjoy those millions of dollars you make! You know, most of us in the middle class bust our asses a hundred times more for a thousand times less the paycheck, so spare me your "slave talk" NFLPA...

This is just like that South Park episode with Metallica pledging against music downloaders!

Football players are payed for their entertainment value. The best football players in the world play in the NFL. They make a premium for their talents.

There's other professions where people make millions and no one complains about them. NFL players make their money quick and then are done. Most won't make it past a few seasons. Players who have any sort of tenure in the NFL should have a nice compensation but more importantly a nice retirement plan. They should also have more say in regards to so called "safety precautions" that the league imposes.

I think the players are moreso arguing for their rights than individual compensation.

I just realized how awesome the new season of South Park will be when they do an episode on the NFL, which I am sure they will. Hopefully they make it a 3-part episode at least as long as its better then the 3-part one they did last year about mysterion.

in all likelihood, they won't even touch this...at best you might get some quick off-handed comment, but that would be it (and for something this level, would be a stretch)

The players are being paid a median of $770k per year to play a game. Disability insurance can be purchased as part of the cost of doing business. The players have no venture capital or risk involved. They get some guaranteed compensation regardless of market or economic conditions. Did I mention that the players job is "to play a game?'

Do the owners get 50% of every player's endorsement deals? Do the owners get any % of other "spin-off" revenue generated from players?

The owners risk losing fan interest and momentum if this carries into the fall. NCAA will re-capture the interest of disgruntled NFL fans and many players' will be past their playing "prime" buy the time revenue streams return to their current state.

50% profit sharing for employees of any business is a ridiculous assertion. The owner's WILL win in the long run if their isn't a season and they know it. The players can at best inflict a bit of collateral damage on the fans by denying them the season. The players need to bend.
