I had my doubts about how much the mighty $ would affect Bud's plans after this season. But those that called it were right. Bud is one of the most frugal owners in the business. I'm not sure if that frugality could not be called "cheap".

I have no doubts that if VY had been under a 3-year contract and Fisher's contract was expired that VY would have been kept and Fisher let go, this decision was all about the money.

I know, I was just reiterating your point. It's like every business, the bottom line is all that matters.

You mean Dave "colossal mansion on the hill" Ramsey? I love how Franklin - The Tree City stated that no wooded hilltop in these wards could be cleared outright for home building yet Dave Ramsey somehow gets that monstrosity viewable from every angle in Williamson county. Think he's got friends in high places? Just like Nissan.

I see this more as Jeff having a great contract and Bud not wanting to void that by making a move. Fisher has never commented much on his contract. He's obviously negotiated that quite well for himself by being quiet about its terms. Fishers $6.5 million is a lot less to take on than Vince's $12 million contract. I mean WTF is this: "The Titans finished 6-10 after a 5-2 start. They've had six-game losing streaks in back-to-back seasons, and have lost at least five games in a row in five of the past seven seasons. The Titans haven't won a playoff game since 2003". Who gets away with that!??? Bud is being cautious with his money right now. He doesn't want to win. But it's over and done with. Vince will go to Minnesota and tear it up.

The money flow is what I can't quite grasp about this game.

Andrew Luck announced that he was going back to school for another year, giving up a reported potential $50 MILLION. The NFLPA is right: that is insane, stupid money for a player who has never touched an NFL field. The standard argument that anyone is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay doesn't hold up here; this is a market distortion. I haven't seen any evidence that this sort of rookie money holds value.

Big Ben Roethlesberger is an anomaly: he got big bucks his rookie year plus a SB, but he had to earn that money by meeting a list of contract conditions that never gets met. AFAIK, he's the first one to do it.

So now here we are having had to pay Young a boatload of money for a very questionable tenure. Bud's decision to keep Fishead only makes sense in that it keeps him from throwing good money after bad. Perhaps he wanted to keep VY in the hopes of recouping the money he threw away there? But no, thanks to stupid contracts that was too great of a financial risk also.

I dunno... maybe a lockout isn't such a bad idea... clean the slate a bit....

that's the difference in fans and owners. The fans invest emotion, the owners invest money. Money wins over emotion every time. On the other hand, this episode may be a positive one. If Fisher wants to spend another contract period here, he will take out all the stops to get to the playoffs. So that means they will draft smarter, hire smarter coaches, and be more innovative. Hey, it could happen!
