i also believe getting rid of CJ would be the worst thing that could happen. I think best case scenario we pick up a decent qb that is actually a pocket passing qb, maybe trade for Orton or somebody like that, draft mallett or locker if available in the second round, spend the rest of our picks on defense and maybe OL. Then for offense start Moss and Britt on each side with Washington or Williams either one as a slot reciever, that setup with a pretty good QB and CJ in the back field would be awesome.

I think it's funny people think Mallett or Gabbert will be around in the 2nd round.

I already said that hope needs to go in a earlier post.....he's way to old!But the rest of our secondary is solid! almost every team in the nfl would go after finny if we released him!

Realistically, I think here is our best chance for success in 2011....

    Sign Mike Singletary as DC
    Sign Donovan McNabb
There will be a few other free agents out there worth looking at, but I wanted to concentrate on the draft for right now.

Round 1: Marcel Dareus or Stephen Paea: We desperately need to be able to get pressure up the middle this year. Either of these guys would fill that hole.

Round 2: Raheem Moore S UCLA: Hope was a major liability last year, so safety is one of the major areas we need improvement. With this pick we are able to take the #1 safety in the draft. Him and Griffin would be a very good duo with the pass rush we would have upfront.

Round 3: Chimdi Chekwa CB Ohio State: At this point we would have upgraded 3 of the 4 levels of our D with players that can come in and help immediately.

Round 4: John Moffitt G Wisconsin: At some point we had to address the interior of our oline, it was terrible last year.

Round 5: Casey Matthews ILB Oregon: We may have to move up into the late 4th to get him here, but it was close enough to list. Very smart, instinctive player.

We would have two rounds left and a compensatory pick or two to take another olineman, and draft a power back (hopefully Robert Hughes in the 7th).

Sign Nnamdi, Logan Mankins, Chad Greenway, Stewart Bradley and Plaxico Burress.

    Re-sign Babin, Harris and KC.

Trade Finny to Denver and a 5th round pick for Orton and trade Amano.

Cut Hope and Gage, oh and Nickey of course.

Let Scaife, Tulloch, Ford, Thornton, and Moss walk. We should receive good compensatory picks as a result.

    Draft:
    1. CB - Prince
    2. S - Rahim Moore
    3. QB - Christian Ponder
    4. OLB - Mason Foster
4 comp. DE - Ryan Winterswyk
    5. Traded
    ...

    Starters:

    CB: Prince, Nnamdi
    SS: Griffin
    FS: Moore
    DE: Morgan, Babin
    DT: Jones, Brown
    MLB: Bradley
    OLB: Greenway, McGrath

    T: Stewart, Roos
    G: Mankins, Scott
    C: Harris
    QB: Orton/KC
    WR: Britt, Burress/Williams, slot Washington/Hawk
    RB: CJ
    FB: Sarge
    TE: Stevens/Cook

Again, getting those free agents would be costly, but we'd also save quite a bit in salary by losing our free agents and with the cutting of VY, Hope and Gage. This really is possible but would take a large commitment from

Not a bad strategy but McNabb is no better thab KC right now.
The wild card here is there are few good Ss and LBs available in FA. If we could sign a vet S and a vet LB we would be able to use out 2nd rounder on Kolb or Orton. That gives us stability at QB for a number of years instead of just a band-aid of one year. I like going DL, DE or DT in the first. Best way to get value there and a guy who be an impact player right away.

no way we can afford those players. i dont care who we cut. we are not going to get 3-4 players of that caliber and still be able to pay for babin and sign our rookies
