I would not trade anything higher than a 4th.

I'd rather pick up McNabb or Orton if he was released. Use KC as a backup and groom Rusty.

That will free up those valuable early picks for defense.

4th rounder for a savy veteran is about right. but I think Orton is more like a 6th because he hasn't really done anything in the league. It's a guaranteed losing season with Orton in my opinion. He only plugs the hole with a pinky finger.

"Hasn't really done anything in the league."

    Are you for real?

Why is that? Please elaborate. He has had 2 straight solid seasons in Devner and in the last 3 years his Td to int ratio is 59-33. Almost 2-1. Isn't that good?

Some factual analysis might be helpful.

I'm for real. He's what I would consider a low end starting qb that hasn't really put together a credible resume'. He doesn't feel or recognize pressure. He's a good second stringer and a bottom tier starter. And defenses seem to have figured him out as evidence by his tapering off. He went from success to mediocrity to losing. Seems to like working out of the shotgun which won't happen here. Doesn't throw a good deep ball. Not really a winner and hit his ceiling. Think he's a starter for poor teams and little more. That said, we qualify. We need someone. At least with Collins he's made a serious run recently so I would prefer to go with Collins, though it doesn't matter to me at all. They both are bottom tier starters and pretty much equivalent, though collins can drop a ball into a bucket better than Orton. Orton seems to throw on a line quite a bit. Not on my radar as an upgrade to VY or Collins. It is more or less a downgrade from VY and more like a chip to buy some time until we draft a qb to replace him.

    Kyle Orton dossier..

    6'4 225
    High 4th rd pick Bears
Age 28(Just 7 months older than Vince Young)
    5 years experience
    Arm stength-Good
    Accuracy-Good

    Career comp rate 58.1%

    Stats last 3 years
    Passing rating 85

    59 Tds-33 ints

Career record as a starter 32-29

Prior to this year he was 29-19 and never not won more games as a starter than he lost in any season.

What have you done for my lately?

    This year 87.5 passing rating
    20 Tds and 9 ints

Cost: 3rd rd pick and maybe a later pick like a 6th. Could even be had for a 4th and 5th since we pick high. Broncos asking for a 2nd.

Leadership? Only Qb to take purdue to 4 straight bowl games. Even Brees didn't do that. Winning record as a starter in 4 out of 5 seasons.

Attitude? No apparently temper tantrums or throwing of equipment.

I look at that and can boil the trends down to:

Hit his ceiling statistically, and he's winning less every year since being a rookie.

Then why was his best season this year?

As for losing maybe he wasn't the reason why his team sucked. They had no running game and were last in total defense. His 87.5 passing rating and 20 TDs to 9 ints suggests he was not the reason they lost.

Since his last 2 seasons are similar how can you say he has "tapered off"? He had better overall numbers this year without Brandon Marshall.

Tapering off? Orton's last 5 starts he had a higher passing rating than in his first 5 starts. In 3 of his last 5 starts his passing rating was 96 or higher including a 131 game.

He had very few bad games. Just 2 games all year with a passing rating below 70. In 8 of his 13 starts he had a rating of 89 or higher.

In 11 of his 13 starts he played well enough for his team to at least be competitive and in 8 of those he played well enough to win.

An 89 passing rating or better in 8 of 13 starts is iron clad proof that he was not the reason the Broncos sucked this year!

He is exactly the type of QB we need consistent and takes care of the football and in our system he will take fewer sacks.
