How does the QB class of this class compare to the QB's of the infamous 2006draft class??

We all know Luck is the consensus #1 pick, which is something the 2006 class lacked, but how do the other guys stack up?? Can you say with confidence that Locker or Mallett will have more success than Young and Cutler? Leinart had a more prolific caree than both Locker and Mallett, and was a higher rated prospect and he's a backup for the Texans 5 years later.

To me Mallett is of the Ben Roethlisberger mold. My only concern with Mallett is that he isn't as elusive as Big Ben and can't move around in the pocket enough to avoid sacks. That could pose a problem for whichever team drafts him.

Locker possessess all the physical tools necessary to succeed, but his stats this season were borderline dreadful. Especially his bowl game line. He looked good on some throws, and running the ball he was definitely a factor, but a completion percentage of 30% and the lack of touchdowns or yards raises some red flags.

There are also the other guys like Cam Newton and Kellen Moore, who may or may not leave for the draft. My question is are you comfortable taking a QB in this draft if VY is released. Do you honestly think that Mallett, Locker, or Moore (You can pretty much cross Newton off the list for obvious reasons) are better than Cutler, Young, and Leinart were 5 years ago?

I would rather wait til next season, give Young one more season under new management to prove himself. If his stats aren't somewhere short of amazing, pull the plug. And take a stab at one of the QB's in the deep class of 2011. But if we're going to get a new QB this offseason, I'd like to see either Moore or Mallett be the guy. Mallett can definitely make all the throws and we have the weapons for him to be successful from the get go. And Moore has shades of Peyton Manning in him every time he steps to the line.

This one is by far better... all due to Luck. Leinart sucks. Cutler and VY are average. Luck is going to be the real deal.

I think Newton is better than Mallett and Locker.

:) I'm sorry, but I've seen a lot more from Newton than Locker and Mallett. Everytime I've watched Locker he has been average at best. I'm watching Mallett right now... he had a slow start; doing okay now, but I still prefer Newton.

I realize Newton's style is something we want to move away from and usually doesn't work in the NFL. If we want a QB, I think it would be a mistake to pass on him though.

How good is Luck meant to be? Who is the NFL equivalent?

He's supposed to come out and be NFL ready... exactly like with Matt Ryan.

He broke at least one of Elway's records at Stanford. The dude is going to be legit.

I doubt we'll see someone as good as him come out of the draft for at least 5 more years.

Luck alone makes this year's class better...all the rest are pretty much the same.

Just watched Mallett for the first time. Game on the line, ball at the 20 and you throw a pick?! I realize its just one play, but it was the biggest play of his life to that point and he blew it.

I've heard a mobile Peyton Manning. I know I know it's a stretch but it some pretty high praise.

I'm not ready to dismiss Newton or Gabbert. I personally love this QB class, I just hope we can get in on it. I haven't seen enough of Gabbert or Locker but everything I've read about them is that they have a huge amount of potential.
