Orton for 2nd rounder

Orton would be a great temporary solution while a guy like Locker or Gabbert developed. I don't think he's a good permanent fix, though.

Orton is an upgrade over Young and Collins, but he probably can't win a Super Bowl.

 

His stats are a direct result of Josh McDaniel's system, not skill. I remember when orton was throwing for 60 yards a game for the Bears but actually winning..

 

We would be better off getting Mallett and letting him start like Bradford has done. He will progress nicely as a starter.

I just think Mallett will be gone if we don't move up and get him (which we won't).

McDaniels wasn't in Denver in 2008, Orton's 1st season there.

His rookie season was the only time he really started for the Bears, and his top receivers were an over-the-hill Mohammad and Justin Gage. They had the #2 defense in the league - of course they weren't going to air it out.

He ain't Manning or Brady, but he sure ain't Collins or Young either. Solid arm. Solid decision making. Takes too many sacks. To me that's worth a 2nd rounder.

 

I wouldn't give up OUR second round pick for Orton. Our pick is essentially a late first round pick. There will be more than 40 players in this draft with a first round grade and there's a good chance we'll be in position to take one.

I'd give up our third though.

 

This sums up Orton for me. I didn't like him after they beat us earlier this year but looking back he didn't say anything about us that wasn't true. Cortland straight up took a cheap shot on one of their guys and Orton implied that Coach Fisher encourages that kind of stuff which isn't too far-fetched.

I don't see it happening if Fisher stays.

 

Great point! Our draft picks are money this year. Regardless of what happens with The Situation we will have some good picks to work with.

This is wrong. Orton was on Chicago in 2008. He came over in the Cutler trade, which McDaniels orchestrated. He never played for Shanahan.
