Am I the only one disappointed in 2002-2003 season?

I really, really, really think we would've won that Super Bowl vs. the Bucs.

    ARGH!!!

2008 was far and away the most disappointing sports season I have ever been a part of in my entire life. And I am a dedicated fan. 2008 hurt me worse then my 2004 Yankees blowing a 3 game lead to the mother effing Red Sox in the ALCS. I literally threw up the night the Red Sox won game 7, and 2008 Titans was way worse. To be so good, start off so strong, seemingly having all the pieces in place, then to just spiral out of control and go 3-3 into the playoffs then get one and done'd by the damn Ravens.... just seemed all too typical. That one hurt bad. I was mad for weeks.

This has to be the worst because it is so unusual for us to start out that good and finish so poor.

Only the 98 team comes close to this. They were 6-4 after a 3 game win streak and then lost 4 of the last 6 but that is nothing compared with being 5-2 and thinking we are an elite team only to completely fall apart.

    2000, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2010... Yes, those were all huge disappointments IMO.

2000 - We were the best team in the NFL, and it was pretty clear... One and done.

2003 - This team was capable of winning it all. We were scoring 30+ points per game like crazy. McNair was MVP. Jamal Lewis was coming off a year in which he ran for 2,066 yards in one season (2nd best all time). We held him to 35 yards on 14 carries (2.5 ypc) and beat the Ravens even though #9 threw three picks. I felt that in the Pats game we outplayed them in almost every way. We shut them down, it seemed like. It was tied at 14 in the 4th quarter when Vinateiri hit a (longer than 45 yd) FG which in those circumstances seemed highly unlikely. We drove down the field... Bennett made some crazy sideline catch. Then the drive stalls. 4th and 10 = McNair throws one up to Bennett who was interfered with as he dropped the pass. No flag, of course. Refs **** us as we fall 17-14 to the soon to be Super Bowl champs.

2008 - 10-0 start, stomped the Steelers (who were considered by most to be the best team in the league), homefield advantage. Sittin' pretty... one and done to Ravens again. A choke of epic proportions.

2009 - We returned 21 of our 22 starters from the '08 season, as we were favored to win the AFC South. We start out 0-6 and get pounded in the anus 59-0 (worst defeat in franchise history).

2010 - We finished the '09 season off well, winning 8/10 games. That momentum was supposed to be carried into this season, and it was... briefly, at least. We get off to a 5-2 start, capped off with a huge victory against the Eagles in which Kenny Britt emerged as one of the best receivers in the league. Time for the Chargers... Britt gets hurt immediately and misses the next four games (in which we were hardly competitive). We sign Randy Moss and our next 4-5 games, on paper, look easy. A deep playoff run seemed inevitable, and the possibility of a Super Bowl wasn't farfetched. A Hall of Fame receiver, Randy Moss, gets a whopping 5 receptions for 63 yards in 5 games (0-5). That's nearly $500,000 per reception. Way to go, Fishstick! You suck!

When all is said and done, looking at all of the seasons I just mentioned, we clearly were not a team capable of winning it all in 2009 or 2010 regardless of what may have been thought at a certain point in time. We were, however, very capable of winning the damn Super Bowl in 2000, 2003, and 2008.

A lot of interesting responses although I'm surprised by so many playoff years listed. I would agree that either of the Ravens playoff losses (but probably the first one) were the most disappointing GAMEs of the Titans era, but it did not taint the entire season, imo.

This year hurts because it was such a tease. VY in year 5 as the clear starter. CJ coming off 2k. Starting off 5-2. Even losing after that, we sign Randy Moss...

    And complete collapse. :sad2:

THIS ONE! THIS YEAR SUCKS! We were looking like a scary team early on before the bye, but now we are just pathetic. What a waste. That lose to Denver should have been a tell tell sign of things to come. The penalties have to stop. For the past 2 season, we always find a way to beat ourselves with false starts on offense, and offsides on defense.

2008 was really awful. Even worse is we beat ourselves. We were so much better than Baltimore and we fumbled away like 2 possessions in the red zone AND it took a botched delay of game call for us to lose. Completely embarrassing. I felt like the Steelers were holding up our trophy at the end of the season. Even worse, I felt like we were robbed of getting to shut up everyone who made such a big deal of the towel stomp, "Oh well they may have crushed the Steelers, BUT they made them mad by stomping on their towel so if they meet again they'll win." And we robbed ourselves of that opportunity.

That being said, 2009 was almost as bad. We had a nice offseason and again had Superbowl aspirations and not only did we not come close, Fisher wasn't even fired! The whole, "Well he salvaged the season by starting Young and you went from 0-6 to 8-8." BFD we were supposed to be a playoff team with a shot at going to the Superbowl and our front office was happy we SALVAGED the season? Has Bud EVER heard of expectations?! If I was told before the start of the 09 season we'd be nowhere near the playoffs and would finish 8-8 I'd be furious! I don't care how we got to 8-8, even if we won the last 8, we have Superbowl expectations and we are lucky to finish .500, no F that, he'd have been fired.

2008 Sucked the most. Thought we had a shot at winning the Superbowl and instead we let the Steelers hold up our trophy, sickening. I also felt like we were robbed of shutting up ESPN who was so sure we'd lose to the Steelers if we met again because we stomped on their towel and it made them mad, what a crock.

With that said 2009 was almost as bad. Nice off season, Superbowl expectations, and we finish 8-8. What I hate is Fisher wasn't fired because the season got salvaged. Who cares if the season got salvaged, it should have never been salvaged. If you had told me before the season started we'd finish .500 and be nowhere near the playoffs, I'd be furious. But I guess Bud doesn't have any expectations if he's happy we "salvaged" the season.

This season has to be the most disappointing for Titans fans. Dispite the "missing" components, [inconsistency of the OL and ? on defense .... think about the Denver game -- 300+ for Orton and less than 70 for CJ] this year could have been one with multiple playoff wins. VY was better, emergence of Britt, special teams better....
Plus the struggles within the division meant this team had an opportunity to improve, winning the division and advancing in the playoffs.

How many think that jettisoning Mawae and Bulluck were really good ideas?
Their replacements aren't really that good., are they?
Bullock could still cover on passing downs. Mawae ? .... maybe VY doesn't get injured with slightly better protection?

Sidebar - If Titans had done the right thing and taken Moss instead of Dyson nobody outside of Tennessee would know who Moss is and he would not be even considered for the HoF
