Sorry if this has already been brought up. (merge thread if so)

Why didn't we kick a field goal and then go for the onsides kick near the end of the game? Would that not have been the best strategy to attempt to WIN?

Because Jeff Fisher wants to be fired and while simultaneously letting KFC boost his stats so Kerry can get a cozy bench position on another team

In one of those rare occasions, I thought the decision was right. Score the touchdown, then kick an onsides for the game winning field goal. However the super short over the middle dump off passes killed far too much time.

If we'd have kicked the FG we'd recover the onside kick and need to go about 60 yards in 25 seconds. Whereas if we get the touchdown, we only need to go about 20 yards after the onsides.

The fact Collins wouldn't throw it into the endzone was a big problem, he wouldn't even wait to see if anything opened up on the sideline/deeper than 5 feet downfield.

That's where we get into decision making. I understand go for the TD so you only have to get into fg range after the onside. But IF that is the decision, then call better plays!!!

either way you got to get 10 points and we didnt , in my opinion i would have went field goal first from a little further away to save some clock and the chances of recovering an onside kick are well not good but you should atleast get to that point. I do agree with you toby that the short dump passes killed us, not ounce did we ever open up the offense

It was one of the worst hurry up go for touchdown drives I've ever seen. KFC didn't even wait for ANYTHING to develop. Pathetic. There's taking what the defense gives you, and there's just not trying to do anything.

    It was definitely the latter.

I was super pissed for two reasons:

    A) I took the Colts -2.5. Fisher's bull$hit decisions cost me a small amount of money, and I screamed obscenities when we scored that garbage TD.

    B) We were not trying to win the game. Fisher was simply trying to make the game look closer than it was.

We reached the 24 yard line with about :55 left on the clock. You immediately kick the FG, and go for the onside. Recover it, and you have 45 - 50 seconds left to go 60 yards for the win, with one timeout remaining.

After the next 2 plays, the ball was still on the 24, but time had slipped to :42. It is now clear that a FG is necessary, because it's going to take at least two more plays to score a TD, and take at least 10 - 15 additional seconds. If you take the FG here, you have 30 - 35 seconds to go 60 yards with one time out.

If at the :55 and :42 marks we had been inside the 15, I could understand trying to punch it in - you are too close not to try. But at the 24, with a QB who isn't throwing the ball more than 5 yards downfield, you have to kick the FG and go for the onside recovery.

The situation was completely botched by Fisher's garbage coaching. Time for the tool to go.

I was fine with the stategy of going for a TD because they were moving down the field and I'm more comfortable relying on a long Bironas attempt as the last play than a Kerry Collins hail mary. The problem was Collins decision making especially the throw to middle at the 5 yard line. CJ had a couple chances to get out of bounds during the drive but didn't do it. It also bugged me on the Colts offsides "free-play" that instead of throwing a jump ball with some air under it to the endzone Collins threw a laser right to the Colts and never gave his receiver a chance to make a play or get interfered with

If you want to listen to conspiracy theorists...

Maybe instead of kicking the field goal and playing to win, we went for the TD because we "needed" to cover the spread.
