So I'm reading MCM and August West answers a question for Cows fans that basically said that most people who are Titans fans wish that the city of Houston had kept the Oilers name/franchise/history.

I disagreed and said as much...that although I wasn't a fan of the Oilers, I grew to love the history of the team once they moved to TN and I became a fan. I like watching old Oilers games/clips.

What do you people think? And how many actually followed the team from Houston?

Texan fans have no history. Never even played a thanksgiving day game. They beat Dallas in a pre-season game and that is pretty much the highlight reel right there. They must be feeling nostalgic for something, anything to grab onto.

This question is more for new fans. I'm an old Oiler fan and of course I love our history.

For being one of the few fans that went to the astrodome in the "final days" of Houston Oilers football, it was sad. I knew that I would follow the team when it moved to Tennessee, but it really was a kick in the gut. Needless to say, the Oilers/Titans deserved better than what they received here in Houston, and I applaud Adams for giving real fans a shot at having a team. I still go to every Titans away game when they play the Texans, and it is a blast. As for keeping the history of the team, I don't see it being relevant. Tennessee is home now, and as long as we beat the Texans, I'm happy.

I watched an espn special about the NFL and LA and the efforts to get a franchise there after 16 years without.

One guy made the point that not having an LA franchise has made the NFL much stronger because cities were willing to spend on new stadiums knowing that LA was a plum destination for any franchise that couldn't get a new stadium deal. As we know places like Baltimore, Cleveland and Houston lost their teams because they refused to build a modern stadium only to build one later for a different franchise.

The people of Houston should have known that the Astrodome was not an NFL caliber venue any longer and given Bud that knew stadium. For a city the size of Houston, in football crazy Texas not to do whatever possible to keep an NFL franchise was just dumb.

Once the Texans franchise started the history of the Oilers there became less meaningful.

Baltimore lost their team because the State of Maryland was going to "nationalize" it and declare it illegal for the team to move. The team left in the middle of the night before being seized by the State.

Been an Oilers fan all my life, funnily enough I was at Fishers first game against the Giants. We called it the toilet game, the final score was 10 - 3 I think and George Foreman was at the game.

I also remember a sign saying "The Pardee is over", which I thought was clever.

I don't care about the Oilers and I don't know anyone in Nashville that does. As I recall, people were absolutely rejoicing when they finally agreed to change the name/logo/uniforms. Of course, I don't have anything against the Oilers. No one is calling up local shows to reminisce about Earl Campbell or Warren Moon or any great moments from Oilers history. I guarantee if you asked people around here to name the greatest players in "franchise history" they'd give you Wycheck, McNair, Bishop, et al.

It's just my guess, but I think most Nashvillians would not oppose a Browns/Ravens-esque situation where the previous city retains all the history and records.

    Oilers fan since 1973.

As my father went through the grocery checkout, he gave my brother & I each a quarter for the gumball machines. We both chose to get a little plastic NFL helmet. He got a Chargers helmet & threw it away (he was already a Steelers fan, as is my mother & father) & I received a blue Houston Oiler helmet. Wanted my own identity.

I took the helmet back to my dad, & I asked, "Daddy, who is this?"

He chuckled as he said, "That's the Houston Oilers. They're the worst team in the league."

I think they were 1-13 that year or the year before?

I've been loyally CURSED ever since.

    Followed them to TN.

    Hate the Texans.

Only Houston team I don't root for.
