Throughout the history of the NFL there have been teams that just couldn’t get to that next level.

Here are a few…..forgive me if this data is incorrect, I did the best I could in the time I had. (Data retrieved from wiki)

There are 10 teams that have been to the Super Bowl (in years shown) and lost each time.
    • Minnesota Vikings (0-4) 1970, 1974, 1975, 1977
    • Buffalo Bills (0-4) consecutively 1991-1994
    • Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) 1982, 1989
    • Philadelphia Eagles (0-2) 1981, 2005
    • San Diego Chargers (0-1) 1995
    • Atlanta Falcons (0-1) 1999
    • Tennessee Titans (0-1) 2000
    • Carolina Panthers (0-1) 2004
    • Seattle Seahawks (0-1) 2006
    • Arizona Cardinals (0-1) 2009

There are 4 Teams that have never played in a Super Bowl.
    • Cleveland Browns
    • Detroit Lions
    • Houston Texans
    • Jacksonville Jaguars

That makes 14 teams that have never, in the history of the NFL, won a Super Bowl. Now, I guess you could say, “At least we (The Titans) made it to a Super Bowl”. But when you say that, remember that it was 10 years ago and we have not even gotten close since then.

It was just 2 years ago when Collins took us to 13-3 and the Titans even had the BYE and home field advantage…what happened? Titans lost to a ROOKIE quarter back (Flacco) and a so so Ravens team, who barely made the playoffs. That is the Titans most recent claim to fame, as it were.

Fast forward 2 years….. Titans lose to a 3rd string QB playing for the Steelers…. Titans lose to a Craptastic team called the Broncos, Titans lose a 2-4 team with lots of injuries called the Chargers (whom we’ve NEVER Beat) and then the Titans lost to a Dolphins team who used every Quarter Back they had in the roster, which the Bears made look like fools scoring 16-0, 4 days later.

To get to the point of this thread, I have always admired Fisher, but it is time to let that Fish go…..Throw him back, he is TOO SMALL, to win a Super Bowl. The Titans, as much as I love them, will always be “A Yard Short”, as long as Fisher is around, and this year is no different. I have officialy stepped off the Fisher bandwagon.

Maybe we will get a REAL Quarterback once Fish is gone too. That would be nice. Ohh, and some receivers that can consistently catch the ball....yah.

This line of thinking is flawed. It's that simple.

There's no such thing as a coach who can't get over the hump. If the circumstances are right, most coaches (Jeff Fisher included) can win the Super Bowl.

Should the Steelers have fired Bill Cowher because it took him several tries before he finally broke through and won the Super Bowl? Should the Eagles fire Andy Reid because he hasn't managed to win the big game?

You keep the coach that gives you the best chance to win. It's up for debate whether Fisher is that guy, but there's no such thing as a coach who "will always be a yard short."

It takes more than being a good coach and a great team to win the super bowl. Luck has a lot to do with it too. At some point you need the breaks to go your way and stop shooting yourself in the foot.

Blocked field goals, fumbles inside the redzone and injuries are really nothing a coach has control over.

We haven't even been close to making it back?

So the following year, in 2000, when we actually had a better team (and the best team in the league) we weren't close?

In 2002 season we made the AFC Championship. That wasn't close?

The the 2003 season we went to Foxboro where we got robbed of a pass interference call on Bennett, and lost 17-14. The Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl. That wasn't close?

The 2008 season when we had the best team in the league and choked again to the Ravens. The team was clearly capable of winning it all. That wasn't close?

Three of the teams I mentioned could've won it all (2000,2003,2008). I'm not defending us by any means. That's pretty sad to come that close only to fall short each time. It's becoming the norm here.
