My point exactly. These players suffering serious trauma to the head is a result of not using the equipment properly. The NFL is hurting itself when it doesn't need to. Don't take away from the game by suspending exciting payers. Enforce wearing your pads the correct way.

I remember in high school the refs would stop the game if they saw you didn't have your mouthpiece in, your chinstrap buckled up, and your tail pad in. NFL may want to do the same.

To me, it's simple. In the open field, if a tackler's first contact with a player is with his helmet, then it should be a penalty or ejection. If there is an injury due to the tackler leading with his helmet, the result is the tackler will be suspended the amount of time the injured player is out.

The key issue was that Jackson was considerd to be defenseless on the hit.

He was facing away from Robinson and focused on the catch. Robinson was well aware he was blind siding a player at full speed helmet to helmet or not.

Jackson didn't have a chance to brace himself for the hit or protect himself in any way.

The problem I see with this is there is going to have to be a lot of interpretation by officials. When player A goes to tackle player B in the open field and he isn't coming from an angle where he is trailing player B, it is very hard not to have the helmet be the initial point of contact, or at least simultaneous with the shoulder. It's usually some combination of head and shoulder, but DB's dont exactly have the broadest of shoulders so there is going to be some helmet contact. Officials are going to have to determine how much of the hit was shoulder and how much was helmet. I mean, I agree with the direction the league is going but I think how it is officiated is going to be all over the place, similar to the rules about hitting QBs.

All of this just makes me realize how much of a game of angles football is, especially at the pro level. An inch this way or that way is the difference between a guy getting the wind knocked out of him and getting concussed.

Kolb's fault. Defenders are always going to be looking to get that big shot. It's football, not ballet. If a QB put's his receiver in harm's way, you get what happened to Jackson.

I don't like the rule change, but there was definitely helmet to helmet. That's why he was laying there twitching.

Sooooo, what do you propose Robinson do? Slow down and let him catch the ball then tackle him?

    C'mon man.

I've watched the video many times, and while this is a violent collision if you look at slow motion at 1:07 - 1:10 his helmets facemask hits desean in the shoulder /chest area desean gets whiplashed with a little contact from dunte shoulder. I think it is a very violent collision but i dont see it being a dirty play. I played all the way threw college at Grand Valley State U, and was a linebacker and was always taught to bury my facemask in there chest and wrap. I just cant blame Dunte for this hit. As others have said Kolb was about to be sacked and not only lead him into the collision but floated it there aswell.

Heres the link you watch and tell me what he could have done differently besides letting up(which could have caused Dunte more injury) or just let him go by????

I don't think the community of users on this forum are responsible enough for the 'It Sucks' button. Clowns like TitansWillWin2 will just scroll through and 'It Sucks' every post in a thread he doesn't like, without even contributing to the conversation. That sucks. Much more then the decent, perhaps opposing, points of view Cruds was bring to the table. LAME.

Watch the play again, his helmet never hit Fraction Jackon's. Of course you lead with your head, that's how you tackle but his helmet never hit the shrimps his shoulder did the majority of the damage.
