As I've heard it put to me before... "It's a culture that you wouldn't understand." I replied, it's not "a culture, it's criminal."

That's okay. Karma will catch up with Vick. I wouldn't be that upset if Tony Brown broke his neck.

I said I don't condone it or think it's right, but don't have as big of a problem with it as most seem to, but that's ignorant? I never said I don't have a problem with it. I just think it's been blown out of proportion. PETA extremists don't help the situation either by saying "he should never be released from prison." That simply makes no sense.

It is my opinion... not trying to shove it down anyone's throat... and I have no problem with people hating Vick for what he did. What he did was wrong. There's no arguing that. The point is that he served his time and learned his lesson. He's gotten what he deserved and now he has a bad reputation and will always be looked at in a negative way, unlike back in the mid-2000's when everyone loved him. People deserve second chances in life. Everyone makes mistakes... some bigger than others which is obviously true in this case.

I've owned around 6 or 7 dogs throughout the course of my life and plan on getting two more sometime within the next couple of years.

And to whoever said "Any dog can be vicious or hostile"... not sure I can really agree there. Sure, to an extent they can be vicious, but most dogs won't be able to rip your face off. Although my favorite dog I've ever had was vicious one time and that was because my puppy got near his food. He killed her. :sad2:

I didn't mean to come off as some dog hating moron because that's not me at all. I've just had bad experiences with pit bulls and have heard too many bad stories that I just don't care for them. I wouldn't harm an animal EVER... unless they were trying to maul me to death.

I guess it all boils down to poor ownership and neglect. Neglect or abuse can cause many dogs to react violently.

I actually think the opposite of many of you, but the same. Many dogs are inherently killers unless we train them NOT to be. they don't have a human conscience and decision-making skills, no morals, they learn behavior through reinforcement. But left in the wild, they are...well, animals. Dogs are naturally hostile towards other animals invading their space. My Greyhound ripped the chest skin off of another male greyhound we had in our house (at the time). They would have killed one another if we had not stopped it. We didn't teach the normally mild-mannered dog to bite and fight, but it is his nature to do so.

Thousands of years of domestication is what makes our pets as lovable as they are. Without that, they would be more comparable to coyotes who would rather bite you than love you.

But needless to say, it's still humans' fault that these dogs are put into dogfighting rings, and their instinct is reinforced, and made to be much worse than it naturally would be.

Well PETA never has exactly been the voice of rational reason anyway.

My two cents.... I think what Vick and his "organization" did was despicable and actually downright evil. However, I'm not gonna hate the guy forever because of it. He did his time*, pretty much lost everything and apparently has worked really hard to get back on top. I hope he is truly rehabilitated and wish him the best (unless he happens to be playing the Titans).

*I'm not trying to debate how appropriate his punishment was. I'm sure we could argue that endlessly. The bottom line is he got what he got and served his sentence.

I've heard that someone is following Vick's pitbulls...the one's involved with the fighting ring and later placed in caring environments for rehabilitation...and that eventually there will be a book documenting their outcome. I think it could be very informative unless it is being written by Peta or some other biased organization.
There are many lessons that could be learned from Vick's actions. Vick himself could be a big influence in changing how a culture views dogfighting, if he decides to take on that role. I hope he is sorry, and I hope at some point he works to educate others on the subject.

Blah. Save me the whole "pit bulls can be loving, caring, beautiful family dogs" nonsense.

As soon as a pitbull (ANY pitbull) is outside loose... the entire neighborhood sh**s itself, and some kid ends up with their face torn off.

The hypocrisy with animal abuse is so fine that I wont even get in to it, because this board has already proved they cant handle that finger being pointed back in their face. Kill any other animal in any way- as long as I can eat it, but nooooo not a puppy wuppy luppy awwwwww...

It's always an adventure with you Deuce, just when I think you can't outdo yourself you manage to do just that. Since your so obviously uninformed allow me to clue you in.

Sure pitbulls are the most dangerous breed of dog but a rottweiler is almost just as dangerous, any dog can honestly be dangerous if raised incorrectly just as any dog can be nice and gentle if raised correctly.

Vick did the worst possible thing and decided to fight dogs. I don't understand the whole "Kill any other animal in any way- as long as I can eat it" do you support killing animals any way possible even torture and do you eat dogs? I never can tell with you, neither would surprise me.

Thank God your a Michigan fan, it just makes it that much more fun.

That's just crazy talk right there. What proof do you have that anytime ANY pitbull gets loose, it's going to attack? Absolutely none. Would you care to know how I know that? Because my cousin's pit bull ran out of the front door one day, down the street, and hopped in a kiddie's swimming pool. Yes, the owner's of said pool were outside when he did it. What did he do to them? Did he rip their face off? No, he jumped up and licked them. Then went back to the pool. And then he was brought home. Without attacking anyone. And there's a big difference between eating animals and abusing pets. Pets are domesticated. They are supposed to be part of your family. Would you eat your grandfather? No, I don't think you would.
