Has anyone seen The Road? I have it, but have yet to have a chance to watch it, but I've heard good things about it. I am also a fan of Viggo Mortensen. I've enjoyed a few of his movies.

    What are your thoughts?

Don't expect this to be anything like any previous Viggo movies. Very slow and depressing but a solid flick nonetheless..

It's good. It follows the book closely. It is probably the most believable apocalyptic setting of any film I've ever seen. Performances are solid, especially Duvall. Like Cruds said, it's a depressing film and it's supposed to be. It's about a dying world, and it reflects the themes as such.

Yeah it was *very* slow, I really thought more would happen. Average film, one rent and done.

It's not your typical hollywood apocalypse movie.

A dark and gritty character driven drama. I really enjoyed it but I imagine a few people will have watched it bvased on the trailer and thought wtf?

    It's not an action movie.

I have. Like I said, it's a good novel. Not McCarthy's best (far from it, truthfully), but the worst Cormac is better than most reads.

The film is fairly close to the novel. Changes a few things and leaves out a very disturbing scene involving them coming across a stillborn roasting on a spit. Apparently the director wanted to film it, but studios/production were quite hesitant to put that in the final film. I think there was a more disturbing scene involving cannibals chasing and killing a woman and child (it was barely covered in the film).

The book was very very moving. It about brought me to tears at the end.

I'd be interested in hearing what would have sufficed as improvements for those who thought this movie was lacking.. Action sequences and happy endings would have betrayed the bleak intentions in this tale.
