No. It's not an oxymoron. It's not hard to run off a big list of good/great athletes who are overrated. You have to be a good player to be overrated. If you're overrated, you're a hell of an athlete, but you have too many people riding your jock... great, but not as great as everyone says.

Funny you brought up that comparison up because I don't see anything that would drastically separate those two from each other.

Why is it not a possibility that Revis become a "one-hit wonder" like Cromartie? Although I really wouldn't consider Cromartie a one-hit wonder. He had one amazing season. He'll never have a season like that again, but that doesn't mean he's not good. People think he's a bust because he guaranteed 15 interceptions in 2008. His 10 INT's in '07 were unheard of. People focused too much on the guarantee and not enough on his play. He's better than half the starting corners in the league.

I've seen games from cromartie and revis. The year cro had the 10 pics was a good year, It could of been great had most of the INT he had come from strictly coverage. He had a year like rod hood had durring that stretch when he had three pics in three games straight. He was in the right place right time. I've seen a number of times that year Cro get beat for big plays but also I've seen him make big plays. After that year I've seen Cro occasionally get beat. Last season Cro lost his spot.

The handfull of games I've seen Revis play in I never seen him beat. Not saying he hasn't ever because I haven't seen every game but the ones I did he was never beat. He's amazing in man coverage, good speed, good hands, great ball skills, and will help in the run. You can argue if he's the best or not but he deserves to be in the top 2. He was the best in 09 at CB like CJ was the best RB in 09 but people argue who's betterCJ or AP. There's no way he is overrated period

i think the secondary depends on your D line, look how bad we fell off the chart last season compared to the season before that. put Cortland on the jets.

Yea I believe it can make a avaerage secondary better but a CB with real skills can hold their own...cortland still had a good year although he was hurt

What a great thread to read... haha. Here's my checklist.

-Is Revis a great cornerback? Yes.
-Is he potentially the product of Ryan's system? Absolutely.
-Is he a Top 3 CB in the league? Yes.
    -Is he overrated? Absolutely.

It doesn't help any that he plays in NEW YORK where they hype anything and everything they can. Give an inch and they'll take a foot in NY. Essentially the media there has blown up just how "good" Revis is and all bandwagoner fans want to agree with it. Thus, everyone saying he's the best is starting to make him overrated. I think he can easily become the best in the league if he continues to play at this caliber, but for now, he's a Top 3 CB.

I know. The NY media are acting like Antrelle Rolle is the key to the Giants bouncing back. Really? Antrelle Rolle? lol

They're acting like he's the best S in the league.

Cortland Finnegan has switched from right to left corner.

The move brings Finnegan to the "action" side of most offensive formations, where he estimates about 70 percent of passes are thrown. The Titans may also give Finnegan a chance to shadow certain receivers this season.

    Ah, but he is.

He's considered the best corner in the league... definitely overrated.

I'll name another great player who happens to be overrated. Adrian Peterson. Dude fumbles too much, but those are overshadowed by ESPN's pant-creamage highlights of him trucking folks.
