Yep, absolutely... just suck it up and pay him Bud. Funny how Bud can keep paying VY millions with the hope that he develops into an amazing player one day. Yet we have a player that has already developed into an elite player, possibly the best to play his position on decades and he won't pay him... go figure.

Agreed pay him.....he has a huge chip on his shoulder and wants to be the best back ever to play the game. He has plenty of fire under him and you can't pay enough for his speed and fb instincts. Our offense is not the same without him......ex Ravens playoff game.

Show him the money Bud and save the birdie for later.

easy to say pay him when it isn't your money. Plus how many of the ones wanting him to be paid actually go to the games. The season ticket holders will be the ones who end up paying for him.

He has a contract..honor it

Don't worry if he isn't paid all of the season ticket holders won't be watching him anyway... since he'll be playing on a different team :(. Again it's an investment surely if Bud can't see that he doesn't have what it takes to run a team anymore. CJ puts butts in the seats, CJ sells jerseys, CJ gets us more national games TV games... all of that equates to more money for the Titans.

I didn't say anything even remotely like that. I'm not sure why you are addressing this post to me. I was responding to the point that CJ was likely to have a statistically better season this year. I don't think that's likely at all. As a result, the Titans might try to pay him less because his performance declined, despite the fact that he'll be just as good as a player. As a result, CJ is looking to get paid while he is in his prime and has just had the best season, statistically, of any offensive player ever. His value can only go down from here, in the eyes of those who base everything on stats.

I don't disagree that he's our best player and deserves to be paid. It will just be hard to meet what he wants because of the rules.

I know I've said this previously, but I just think you gamble and do the deal even paying him large bonus money.

In order to make that gamble you have to believe CJ will continue to work and play hard. I think the incentive of one more contract in 4-5 years would be enough. He'll be late 20s then, but he'll have a chance at one more 30-40 million contract at that point.

If he continues to play hard, and we sign him now with most of the bonus in the uncapped year, it could be really beneficial for us over the next few seasons. CJ won't effect the cap as much, which would help us sign others.

Downside is CJ no longer trying and having to swallow wasting that much money.

My gamble would be pay CJ now, help the books, and hope for the best with him as a person/player.

How many of you wanting CJ to get paid think the Haynesworth contract was smart for the Redskins?

Haynesworth received right at $32mil for one season of play with $26mil of that bonus money. With the 30% rule limiting how high his base can be raised, bonus money in this neighborhood is what CJ is wanting.

CJ didn't have trouble getting into camp. CJ didn't have a history of taking plays off or other work ethic questions. CJ didn't have a history of head stomping, traffic incidents or manslaughter allegations.

Caveat emptor- Redskins WERE foolish to pay AH that way. That has NO bearing on folks who want AH back now at a great price. CJ has done nothing but perform.

Come on TJ- not a fair comparison at all.

Exactly, can't make that comparison CJ is a football player with drive, not a lazy pile of poo.

Bud will do what Bud will do. It probably depends on if and how soon he and others in charge think CJ can get us to a super bowl. I'm not holding my breath waiting for the big pay check to come through. There is no history of it with Bud and I don't think he's changed. jmo
