A team with a low ranking in Adjusted Line Yards but a high ranking in Open Field Yards is heavily dependent on its running back breaking long runs to make the running game work."

definately gotta think the second case is more the Titans. CJ is a dynamic runner, and that is not always a good thing. Also I think Titans getting stuffed 22% of carries, according to their count, really hurts the OL on their grading scale.

You can't ignore the no gain carries.

Sure we know the big picture is different than what those stats reflect. However we chose to run against 8 man fronts between the tackles. The plays were called and run in the hope of getting those big gains.

I think we ran CJ up the gut far too many times without showing any creativity. It's a testament to how good he is the he still had so many big gains.

MJD and Rice are better than Jackson as is Turner.

    Good points.
So I do think we need to spread the defense more which gets the defense out of evry gap up front and the S off the LOS.

The bottom line is the stats are erroneous because a better passing team will make it less likely to have zero or negative runs. When we did pass the OL was solid in protection. Obviously teams ran strong sets on defense where more open passing attacks will face more nickel and dime packages.

Frank Gore is just as good as Rice.

But that's not the point. Point is, you'd get a guy that's not the best ranked as the best. It's like if you go purely by stats, Philip Rivers would end up #1. Then with Brees and Manning in 3rd.

So by saying Ray Rice would be the best- I didn't mean a bad RB or mediocre RB would get the #1 spot. I just meant a guy floating around the 5 spot would. Which is where Ray Rice is to me... about 6th in the league.

Yea... Not sure how I left out MJD. He's definitely top 3 or 4. I guess when I thought of the Jags, I just said "oh, well they suck balls" and moved on to the next team. :)

Reading that piece left me thinking three things; (1) Jahri Evans is the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL??? Really that's news to me, but okay it's possibly possible. (2) Ryan Clady & Jake Long are the best LT's? Hardly true for one of them, Clady is hurt right now. Hurt players can't be the best, just no way you're #1 while riding the pine.

    (3) That ranking is all fudged up. The only thing I'd have the same is their first and last ranks. Raiders blow, and New Orleans did it all last year. But us at 17?!? LMAO, that's disturbing how we received zero recognition. New England the 2nd best O-line, WTF sike!

Let's just say Jason Cole has put together MUCH better articles than this piece of junk.

    That's better.

A good way to gauge the quality of an offensive line is to look at the RB's success. Not to pick apart and make up stats to explain having the Titans 17th when in reality they're first or second. Notice the best backs last year came from the same place you'll find solid lines..

It's a tough thing to measure. Anything with us in the top10 is acceptable to me.

When someone tries to say our o-line isn't even in the top half of the league, yeah hard to take anything he writes serious.

some of these rankings are like the Power Rankings - meaningless. In fact most of them are meaningless. I'd put the Jets, despite losing Faneca, as the top Oline but that's just me and the eye test.
