And teams have shifted strategy and moved more to 3-4 defenses. There are any number of reasons to explain a shift. Its why stats don't tell the whole story.

Check out LB sizes. Safety sizes. Corner sizes, even though size doesn't even explain the whole story. Corner sizes actually might've gone up as teams play more zone and LB sizes especially OLB go down as they have to cover more but then the sizes may be balanced by teams playing a 3-4 where a 3-4 OLB would be bigger than a 4-3 OLB and have different responsibilities and yet if you just look at sizes, they'll probably average out. There's a reason why Roy Williams couldn't make it in Dallas. Box safeties don't exist as much anymore. 4-3 teams LBs tend toward getting smaller. Kato June is an awfully for a small LB. He was a safety in college iirc.

    Its why stats re misleading.

I can't believe anyone would actually believe that teams these days are built the same as teams 10 years ago. There's been a shift towards being better at pass defense as teams throw more which means you need guys that can cover better so they lean less on stopping the run.

Who the hell is Kiki Barber?

And that DE thing someone said, where they're actually bigger now; that's phony bologna. 3-4 DE's are like DT's 10 years back. That formation makes it difficult to decipher the DE's now who were DT's then. 10 years ago how many teams ran a 3-4? The 3-4 is a wildcard in this discussion.

Thank you.. those who want to say that defenses were bigger 10 years ago have provided absolutely nothing to prove that.

No you check them out it is your theory that poor Eddie George played against bigger defenses. a theory that has been blown out of the water.

the increase in 3-4 defenses has only increased the averaged up front today vs 10-15 years ago.

There are without any doubt far more 300 lb linemen in the league today.

Why focus on one position anyway?

Some posters here had the nerve to say that Eddie George was the victim of larger more muscular defenses than today. That theory had no factual basis behind it and was simply not true. The seven guys in the defensive front are NOT smaller today.

It sounds good to make up some theory that poor Eddie had to play against Na'vi sized fronts but it is a rectal generated theory with no basis in fact.

    Myth busted, destroyed!

eh, i don't care enough to go through the trouble. you're the one that wants to blow it "out of the water."

not really. the only ones that think its been busted are the ones that didn't believe it to begin w/. the ones that agreed before still agree. so once again, we have a long thread that really solves nothing.... which is why i really didn't care enough to provide "proof" to begin w/. I stated my opinion. You stated yours. I've been around these message boards long enough to know that you're not really going to convince anyone. so i'll state my opinion and if you agree great but if not... eh, don't care.

Hey anyone remember shouting at the top of their lungs for the Titans to draft Shonn Greene to replace Lendale?

Good times... good times. There's a power back. Now he's with the unbelievably-stacked-Jets. Sucks.

We got a TE that we refuse to play and Ryan Mouton (kick returner) instead. Wonder how long til we're "rebuilding" again?

    ^^

Sorry to get off topic but Fish said that Cook's role is to stay on the field this season. So it sounds like he'll be starting at TE at this point.

Unfortunately he also said Nate was one of the 3 recievers he was going to use.
