Addition of Hill increases Titans' options

[IMG]Is Tye Hill a magic solution for the Titans who have a hole at one of their starting cornerback spots? No.

But if you don’t have a clear-cut starter, the next thing you want is options. And the Titans have done well to supplement second-year corners Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty with veteran free agents Rod Hood and now Hill.

Hill’s agreed to a one-year deal with the Titans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

We have a scouting take on Hill here.

Based on that, the question now is how well Chuck Cecil, Marcus Robertson and Tim Hauck are able to coach Hill up to get him in position to be a contributor. But if they do great work with Mouton and McCourty, it may not turn out to matter much.

Some will now extrapolate that the Titans will definitely go defensive end in the first round of the draft. I think their total work in free agency leaves them in a spot where they do not have to address any one spot at No. 16.

But the pool of ends and their two moves at corner certainly leave them the room to go for a pass-rusher if one they love is there.

An update from Bryan Mullen ...

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter is reporting that the Titans and free agent cornerback Tye Hill have agreed to terms on a one-year contract.

Hill visited the Titans last week.

The Falcons released Hill, 27, on March 16. They had acquired him from the Rams last September in exchange for a seventh-round pick. He was the Rams' first-round pick (No. 15 overall) in 2006 and at the time was considered to be the top cornerback in the class.

The former Clemson star started the first three games for the Falcons in 2009 but lost the job. His best year came in his rookie season when he had three interceptions.

The Titans re-signed cornerback Rod Hood recently but Nick Harper, the starter opposite Cortland Finnegan last season, remains a free agent.

    Agreed with all.

He's added veteran depth and at 27, is still one of the fastest players in the NFL.

He still needs A LOT of work, but with Cortland mentoring him, this could pay huge dividens.

He was drafted by the Rams (with no one there for him to learn from) then went to Atlanta (with no one there to learn from either).

Come on Cortland... Take him under your wing and turn him into the first round pick everyone thought he could be!

I can dig this signing. He might turn into a solid CB afterall. And he may fall flat on his face and be cut before the seasons starts. I'm hoping he does well.

I like it for the depth as we wait on Mouton and McCourty to mature. Decent pickup.

Anyone know if he can return punts though?

You poor guy, you got scammed into buying a Hill jersey. Keep it real, wear it anyway. I still wear my Pacman jersey from time to time.

At least with names like Hill and Jones, it's not that crazy to think that a new guy with the same name will show up and take the number.
