All good points. I kinda figured the MVP choice was going to be him from reading Peter King's columns; he's been telegraphing it for several weeks now (as he did last year in an article about how amazing it was that Peyton played so well in spite of a concealed knee injury.) I felt that his pointing this out as a rationale for voting for him as MVP was weak at best. I just think it mostly comes down to a popularity contest.

And he did it with little help from a running game.

CJ had a fantastic season. If the Titans were playing tomorrow, he'd been in the hunt.

    A Total Disgrace!!!

I have nothing against Peyton Manning...except when the Titans are playing the Colts or the Colts are in the Super Bowl. But I recognize that Manning is one of the best QB's in NFL history.

However, Manning winning the MVP this year by a landslide shows the bias writers have or that they haven't done their homework. Or worse...they don't care. The evidence?

Manning was NOT the best QB in the league this year. Not statistically. In fact...their are FIVE QB's with a higher QB rating than Manning. He didn't league the league in any category as a QB. And Brett Favre for example matched Manning with a lot FEWER turnovers (hence the much higher QB rating) but was spurned by most writers. Or how about the player who LED the league in QB rating - Drew Brees? He completed a ridiculous 70% of his passes, passed for a higher average yards per pass, threw more TD's than Manning with fewer attempts and fewer INT's.

Since the Colts did not go undefeated, I find it hard to accept the argument that this has something to do with record. Brees and Favre led their teams to great records too. For besting Manning statistically, Brees got 7.5 votes to Manning's incredible 39.5. The Hall of Fame Brett Favre received a SINGLE vote?

But perhaps the biggest disgrace was not who won, but who didn't even show up on a single writer's ballot. None of the QB's who received Votes had historically significant years. None of them broke the record of QB rating, passing yards, TD's, TD %, fewest INT's or INT %. Only Drew Brees set a passing record and that was his just over 70% completion percentage. In comparison, Chris Johnson was only 1 of 6 players in NFL HISTORY to reach the 2000 yard mark in rushing yards and BROKE the ALL-TIME yards from scrimmage mark. What acknowledgement did he get for this accomplishment?

    Not a single vote.

Here are the previous rb's who won the award since 1993 and their MVP winning seasons.

Emmitt Smith in 1993, had 1,486 rushing yards, 9 rushing TD's and 414 receiving yards and 1 TD.
Barry Sanders, in 1997 had 2,053 rushing yards, 11 rushing TD's and 305 receiving yards and 3 TD's.
Terrell Davis, in 1998, had 2,008 rushing yards, 21 rushing TD's and 217 receiving yds with 2 TD's.
Marshall Faulk, in 2000, had 1,359 rushing yards, 18 rushing TD's and 830 receiving yds with 8 TD's.
Shaun Alexander, in 2005, had 1,880 rushing yards, 27 rushing TD's and 78 receiving yds with 1 TD.
LaDainian Tomlinson, in 2006, had 1,815 rushing yards, 28 rushing TD's and 508 receiving yds with 3 TD's.

The above players WON the award. Chris Johnson, who didn't receive a SINGLE vote, had 2,006 rushing yards and 14 TD's with another 503 receiving yds (with a 10 yard receiving avg) and 2 more receiving TD's. Of the 6 rb's above who won, CJ had more rushing yards than all but 2 of them and he had more yards from scrimmage than ALL of them. While his TD's are fewer than most, his total is still higher than 2 of the winners.

Chris Johnson had a historically significant season. He stepped up to lead this team and carried it on his back. Chris Johnson LED the league in rushing and total yards from scrimmage (while the MVP winner led the league in nothing). His season was better than most previous rb winners except for total TD's (none of the QB's approached the record for passing TD's in a season either). Chris Johnson had a season worthy of winning the MVP!

To not receive a single vote...is a TOTAL DISGRACE!!!

Mvp isn't always given to the best player in the nfl, if it was CJ should have got it. I hate to admit it, but he deserved mvp, the colts wouldn't be a playoff team without Manning so he's valuable in many ways. When painter came into the game against the Jets....the whole offense looked like the redskins offense. CJ had no chance because his team didn't goto the playoffs.

The way I see it, they vote the MVP for only playoff teams. That narrows it down to 12 teams before the first vote is made. That is why CJ gets no consideration.

I see Favre, Manning and Brees as all deserving. The little setbacks late for Favre and Brees were probably key to Manning getting the MVP.

Peyton is certainly the NFL's poster boy with his 4 MVP's. And why not, he deserves it. Good image, only makes positive decisions, nice guy. He beats us yearly so we all have some kind of dislike for him, but really congratulations to him. He leads his team, he commands the offense, if he's not there they lose.

Eventually we'll get our wish of C.J. as MVP, but for now it's Manning and his 14-2 playoff team. Once Chris has a playoff caliber team he'll have his many awards too, and then all the Colts fans can wish he was theirs.

I'm not surprised, really. Peyton is a great QB and the league/sportwriters are in love with him. However, as others have posted...it is blatantly obvious your team HAS to be in the playoffs or have a winning record to be considered. Sadly, even if CJ had broken Dickerson's record (thanks Hocculi you TURD), he would have not received the MVP. CJ's time is coming...i hope we don't wear him out before then. I can see him being the first back to have 2 2k seasons.

Compare the #s to the other QBs in the playoffs, idiot. Its really not that great. In fact he sucked it up quite a bit this year compared to how he usually performs.

Here's a hint: needing 4th qtr comebacks is pure proof this wasn't one of the colts' better years.

Brees deserved this more then melon head.

The NFL MVP is almost as big a joke as the Heisman.

I wonder how the Heisman feels about dissing a four time NFL MVP that is likely to lead in every major statistical category when his career is over?
