Peyton Manning became the first player to win The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player honors four times. The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romped to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He got 39 1/2 votes to 7 1/2 for Drew Brees as only quarterbacks received any backing.

Must be nice to have everyone on your jock for putting up average numbers comparable to every other QB in the playoffs this season.

Heaven forbid a kid in his 2nd year that just did what only 5 others in the entire history of the game get some recognition.

    *** this league

Another case of people putting too much emphasis on the QB and picking the best player on the best team. This wasn't even Mannings best year, he basically missed the last 2 games and Johnson sets an NFL record for yards in a season. People are stupid. What did Manning do this year that was all that special? Nothing he doesn't normally do.

I was really surprised CJ didn't even get one vote. It is totally bs that they only really look at qbs for this award. Even still, weren't Rivers and Favre's TD and interception ratio better than Peyton's? The voters probably made up their mind when ol' Painter came into that Jets game.

I agree. I think Rivers was more MVP anyways then Manning. CJ shoulda gotten at least 5 votes though..

4500 yds, 33 TDs, and SEVEN 4th qtr comebacks in only 14.5 games = AVERAGE NUMBERS???? LMAO!!! CJ couldn't have been that valuable, his team didn't even finish with a winning record.

    1) Manning's numbers are not dominating any other QB this year, not enough to warrant 39 votes to 7. Get real or get out.

    2) Cj can't play defense and he can't throw the ball. I'm sorry, did Peyton Manning set an NFL record this season that's been done by only 5 others in the entire history of the game? No? Yeah cause that was CJ. No records by Peyton, no records by Brees. Gtfo.

    3) Those 4th quarter comebacks were never by more than 7, so big f'ing deal. I'm sure Jim Sorgi could have done that given the circumstances.

I think I read somewhere that last year, CJ got one MVP vote. It's funny how he didn't get one vote this year, even though he had a historic season.

It's ridiculous, truly pathetic. I don't know what it will take for the league to choose someone other than their pre-selected primadonna QBs for an award worth any significance. The kid just broke 2000 yards, a feat only done 5 times..and they still give it to someone who's only accomplishment is leading the team to the playoffs.

I didn't see Kerry Collins getting MVP for securing the #1 seed at 13-3 last year, did you?

    ---

off topic..but i'm almost at the point of not even caring or watching any more playoff games, the competition is so weak these days + the rule changes have made it so restricting..the league is losing it's luster if you ask me. The Comeback and MVP "awards" have been catered to the pretty boys that the league just looks like a total joke at this point.
