I agree with you, i think CJ and VY work well together, and i loved the block vince put on a defender to get CJ some running room! The whole team is playing well and better. The defense has stepped up with fuller and finnegan. The offense is on the field longer, scoring more points, and now the defense can get rest. This week will be a challenge with houston but I love what I am seeing so far from this duo. I also have to say recievers are doing a better job of catching the ball finally!

No he wont. If it isnt one thing..its another. Some people will never give him any credit no matter what he does. When KC was stinking it up..many of these same people were digging deep to find that "silver lining"..which is fine. But now VY has helped us get 3 wins and its well CJ is doing all the work..he's only throwing dump offs..he hasnt thrown for "x" amount of TDs..etc.. Point is..when it comes to VY there will always be those who regardless of what he does he wont get credit.

Its not a coincidence that we have 3 wins with him at qb..when we were just 0-6 previously. Im NOT saying he is the sole reason..but he is more of a factor then people are willing to give him credit for. JMO

I agree with you on Team part. However I still don't get why you write "until then". Either he's been a factor or he hasn't. Nobody wins a football game all by themselves.

It looks like there are some Titan fans who actually hate Vince Young more than they like the Titans.

Conversely, I'm a VY fan but I was happy with the 13-3 season last year even though Kerry Collins was playing.

And now that Tennessee is 3-0 with VY, I can't pretend that it's all because of VY or that he has carried the team on his back at anytime during the last three games.

But I do believe his presence complements CJ which helps keep the offense on the field, which helps the defense, which helps the Titans.

I'm sure you all know that all of CJ's numbers are up. He's averaging 165 yards per game rushing over the last three compared to 99 ypg in the first six. Yard per carry is 6.6 to 6.2. TDs per game are 2.0 to 0.3. Instead of catching 2.6 passes for 21 yards per game, he's catching 4.6 for 45.

Could it just be scheduling? Possibly.

Or it could be what Chase Stuart of the New York Times said in an article he wrote about Chris Johnson the other day. He attributed Chris Johnson's escalating stats in the last three games, in part, to Vince Young, stating:

Just as Michael Vick helped Falcons running backs, Young’s presence on the field prevents the outside linebackers and defensive ends from selling out to stop the run. The threat of a QB bootleg is always available for Tennessee, and it will require at least one defender spying on Young on most plays.

I believe that to be true because I've seen it before. At the University of Texas, Cedric Benson's yards per game, yards per carry and touchdowns all went up substantially during the 1.5 years he played behind VY compared to the 2 years he played behind Chris Simms and the .5 year he played behind Chance Mock.

Just look at 2003. During the first six games with Mock at QB, he gained 348 yards on 90 carries (3.9 ypc, 58 ypg) and 6 TDs.

With VY at the helm for the last seven games, Benson had 1002 yards on 165 carries (6.1 ypc, 143 ypc) and 15 TDs.

But I'm sure those stats are either telling or irrelevant depending on where you stand regarding VY.

As for me, I like it.

And, on a related note, I also like the fact that the City of Houston is having a meltdown in anticipation of VY's homecoming.

Newspapers and radio DJs are begging Houstonians to not wear VY jerseys and to not cheer for the Titans.

Little do they realize that the very fact that they're so worried about it and that they're trying to dictate people's behavior should be much more embarrassing for their city than thousands of VY supporters could ever be.

For a city of 6 million, they're very insecure.

Sorry for the length of the post. I don't post often so I have a lot to say when I do.

The vince haters never stop. Teams were blitzing the hell out of collins and he refused to throw the screen to CJ. Notice how much better we are running the ball and how many more balls CJ is catching now!!!!!!! Yes the defense is playing better but I will say that we would have won the houston game with vince. Mr. Adams talk with fisher seemed to do the trick during the bye.

Exactly !! I clearly remember us in the chat rooms screaming at KC because that screen pass was there 90% of the time..with CJ being butt naked and he hardly ever threw it to him.

Most of us on here werent asking for VY to get time because we think he's the next Steve Young or whatever..but because we felt he would add a differenty dynamic to the offense that defenses would have to prepare for...and thats the ability to extend the play with his legs. How many drives have been extended because of VYs ability to run? Maybe because its not a "sexy" statistic (i.e TDs..300+ pass yrds) it gets overshadowed..but when it comes to this teams style of play..its worth noting. And as we all know..the longer the offense is on the field..the LESS the defense is..which theres no doubt in my mind helps them toward the latter of the games

The analysis is superficial. Chris johnson had an average over 6.2 yards per carry the first 6 games. He was just as effective. The main difference is that he is getting about 9 more carries a game because we are not playing from way behind.

What about quality of opposition? In the first 6 games we played against the steelers, colts, jets and pats.

The average defense rating in our first 6 games was 11th.

The last 3 teams we played had an average defense ranking of 22nd.

    I guess that doesn't matter.

CJ's highest YPC game occured in game 2.

In the last 2 games CJ has averaged 5.1 and 5.4 respectively well below his season ypc which is 6.6.

Bottom line is that he is getting more carries not running with any more effectiveness. Your entire thesis has just been blown up!

The screen is a planned play not something the QB decides to do in the course of the play. Why we didn't run more of those especially when teams were blitzing but it has nothing to do with choice.
