One does not have to play the race card to point out how idiotic it is to say "no running QB has ever won a Super Bowl, therefore one never will". The point the other poster was making was simply that many people said there would never be a black president, and now there is, whether or not you or I approve of him, and whether or not history views him as a good president, is not relevant. The point is simply that the people who said it would never happen were obviously incorrect.

To use a less political example, using your logic, it would be perfectly fine to say in 1968 "no human has ever made it to the moon, so you idiots need to realize nobody ever will", or to say in 1920 that "no human has ever crossed the Atlantic in an airplane, so none ever will". Both of those make as much sense as what you are saying.

I find it hard to believe that these comparisons are serious; you are taking actual life achievements and comparing them to the scrambling quarterback situation. Football is a game; and just like any there are certain advantages that can not be questioned.

For example, in the game of bowling EVERY competitive bowler throws a curve ball. And saying that some new style of bowler comes in and attempts to be the best 'straight ball' bowler in the world. Well, guess what...there is a reason bowlers throw the curve. Statistically, by the way the ball enters the pins it is impossible for a straight bowler at the highest skill level to EVER beat a curve ball thrower of equal skill level.

In basketball, there is a reason there is a point guard, a center, a certain # of forwards that fit certain molds both physically and skillfully. Over time the best minds in the game have figured out what it takes to win. That's why you don't see a team with 5 centers or 5 point guards trying to break the cycle.

There is one important point I need to clarify; it's OK TO HAVE THE ABILITY (Big Ben, McNabb, etc) to scramble, but when that's your best ability and you're touching the ball 40+ times per game with 3 receivers and a tight end who DEPEND ON YOUR THROWING ABILITY, then you give yourself almost zero chance of winning.

Someone above mentioned Drew Bennett and wondered what he ever did for Vince. I think the correct question is what did VINCE ever do for him? I distinctly recall a game where I won a fantasy game because he had like 270 yards receiving and 3-4 td's from a passing quarterback; Billy Volek.

There is a reason the qb's of our era with rings are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Elway, Favre, Eli, and Big Ben, and Joe Montana. It's because of the nature of the game, the size of the field, the # of players on the field. It's set up for a skillful passer, not a 2nd running back on the field that does nothing to stretch the 100 yard field.

Ask the Dolphins how 2 running backs in the Wildcat worked out in their little playoff run last year. And then ask the Ravens how much more difficult it was to defend a QB like Big Ben who is accurate, makes smart decisions, and has THE ABILITY to scramble if the play breaks down.

And pulling the race card in a country where a man of a 16% minority got the majority vote obviously has lost all validity (the people who irrationally pull the race card are just as much of a loon as the guy who judges someone because of who his parents are and where he was born), so you must have chosen to give up on your argument since you have no logic to back it up; only emotional attacks with no substance.

Yes it is a fact but that isn't the point. It's claiming that because it hasn't happened before it won't ever happen is illogical thinkings.
I bet they were saying in the 70s a black QB would never win a Superbowl because it hasn't happened before.
    It's simply illogical.

Gunny, do you have a serious issue with race or what? Do you only see the color in people and not their individual talents? That's kinda how Jim Irsay, the leading vocalist against Rush owning a team because of his political thoughts. Nevermind, players have shot themselves, ran over people while drunk, or ran elaborate dog fighting rings. The Colts owner is all for equality in the NFL, yet there are no women and only 1% Japanese Americans and very few latinos.

In fact, all 3 quarterbacks and kickers on his team (who get preferential treatment towards extra rough play) are white. So much for equality on his own team, huh?

Big Ben was 24th in the league in passer rating last year. He also had 22 turnovers which was 2 more than vince had in 2007. He completed under 60% of his passes. I do not even understand any of the logic you are using in this statement. Big ben is definitely not a pure pocket passer and anyone who thinks that does not watch the steelers play very often. He scrambles around and makes plays and turns the ball over quite often. He has 6 ints in 6 games this year and you guys flipped out when vince threw 17 in 15 games. If anything I think talking about big ben only helps vince case in being able to win without being a drop back passer.

A guy that had a 2007 season of 32 touchdowns vs 11 interceptions with the 2nd leading passer rating in the league only to Brady who broke every record in the book isn't a pocket passer? What the hell is then, a 9 td vs 17 int performance over a 15-game stretch?

Getting back on the subject. A pocket passer is NOT needed. So what if Mike Vick was qb. And we had moss, chad chocinco, and t.o. at wr, and vick sucked at throwing but because he had great wrs , he did enough. And they won the sb? You don't NEED a pocket passer. You NEED a good TEAM.
