That's the entire theory of a Zone Defense. You defend "Zones" because you cause the QB to throw an imperfect pass which can get picked off. Zones also defend the run well.

The titans just happen to match up well against the Steelers. Regardless of what you guys think... The Steelers Oline is terrible and the Titans match up well. Big Ben makes up for a terrible O line with his ability to get outside the pocket and make plays. The steelers game from last year is a terrible measuring stick for our defense.

Losing to the Patriots in their house in a snowstorm isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Having Brady hang tons of points on you because you have injuries in your secondary isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Making such a weak effort in every single phase of the game that it results in the worst football performance in a generation IS something to be ashamed of. You literally have to go back over 30 years to find a team that got whipped as completely as the Titans did, and the Titans didn't go down swinging against overwhelming odds - they quit trying before the first half was even over. No guts, no pride, no character.

And the Patriots quit trying after the first drive of the 3rd quarter. Didn't matter, though; their undrafted free agent rookie QB led a 61 yard, 7:27 touchdown drive against the Titans starters too. Their undrafted free agent running back got over 9 yards per attempt. The Titans couldn't prevent a shutout playing against backups half the game; the Patriots could probably have scored 100 if they felt like it. Even the famously vengeful Belichick just lost interest in making the rubble bounce after a while.

They're also developing a depressing tendency towards taking cheap shots - they've committed something like 60 yards of roughing the passer penalties in the last two games, most of them blatant like the diving headlong at Peyton Manning's knees last week or the aimed helmet-to-helmet hit on Brady. Those things happen sometimes, but a disciplined team doesn't keep doing that sort of thing. But of course the Titans aren't disciplined anymore - they're going off the rails and nobody is really in charge in a meaningful way. A few guys getting hurt doesn't cause that.
