I don't understand why last night we threw on 3 and 1 and ran on 3 and 21. When did we hire Bozo to call the plays?

Because on 3rd and 1, it would make too much sense to run the ball, and on the 3rd and 21, they had just given up on the drive. If you notice, the majority of the time when the get in a 3rd and very long situation, they tend to give up on the drive so that they can punt it. I have never understood that. Especially if they are backed up inside our own 10 yard line, then you can guarantee that the drive will stall and have to punt.

I'm not blaming the ref's, but a lot of calls made it hard on our D and O. We had 3rd and 21 because of penalities. On the other hand, when the Colts had the ball the penalites helped them. The two roughing the passer calls before the half gave Peyton 30 free yds, and it seemed we never recovered.

Too many flags against us last night...that is the sign of poor coaching...

It's very simple on the long yardage situations they know that Kerry has no ability to throw an accurate deep ball consistently and when it is accurate it is usually accurately thrown into our opponents' hands. This is why teams don't have to play deep coverage against us because they know he is too errant to hit a deep ball consistently.

To the players credit, what you can do on 3rd and 21 is very limited. Most teams in that situation have no success.
It's frustrating that they got in that situation not by bad playcalling, but because of stupid penalties. Example of a Fisher team shooting themselves in the foot.

Same with the Defense. They had Peyton rattled, until 2 roughing the passer calls (30 yds) on one drive killed them. Not many defenses can stop Peyton if you give him 1/3rd of the field free.
This team has too many vets to be making that many stupid penalties...

Throwing on 3 and 1 is fine since the other team is probably expecting the run... the problem is that Collins tried to go deep instead of looking for a short pass. I also remember a 4 and 5 where Collins again tried to go deep.

Collins is simply not an accurate passer and the WRs keep dropping the ball, so running was probably the best option, even on fourth down.

I'm not calling for a wild cat but would it be the worst thing in the world to see Lendale CJ and VY in the backfield together?

It would certainly make the D guess a little bit.

That would put to many playmakers on the field at one time so we would never see that.

Exactly. Plus I've seen LW's blocking. He is a pretty good blocker, and would make a fairly effective FB for CJ if they both were in the backfield at the same time. Plus you could swap them and let CJ do a bit of blocking for LW (abeit to a lesser degree). It would keep the defense guessing.
Have 'em both in there, then send CJ out wide or to the slot. Defenses will either shift a LB or roll a safety over. That could open up lanes for LW to run, or leave the middle of the field open for passes.
