Right now I think it is a 3 horse race Indy not to far ahead in Jags and Texans are coming together for the south and it will come down to the last games, and I think two teams will make the playoffs.

I have faith it will get turned around- but I've seen enough to know that it won't be this season.

Glad to see you don't act like a child and play the blame game.

1 team since the merger has made the playoffs after starting 0-4.

No team that has started 0-3 has ever won a Superbowl.

I'm sure a team will change that one day, but I'm not seeing anything to make me think the Titans are that team. This a forum, people are going to voice their displeasure at the team's performance. If you don't like it, don't read it.

The excuses you are making for the Titans don't cut it for this paying NFL fan.

If you were a REAL fan, you'd transfer to Vandy or MTSU, buy PSLs and go to all the games. No one made you attend school in Florida.

Seriously, how do you know you'd do any more than me if you had the time or money?

Thanks for the compliment -- I think. ;)

Obviously, scoring an anchor player like Peyton Manning (and how can anybody from Tennessee not like him at some level?) in a draft can make fielding a competitive team a lot easier.

I sometimes find myself going back to that draft and recalling all the "Who'll go first: Manning or Leaf?" talk. And then I fall down on my knees and thank God for obviously being a Colts fan.

We deserved it after John Elway thumbed his nose at us way back when and sentenced us to a decade of futility behind the leadership of such legends as Jeff George, Jack Trudeau, Art Schlichter, Mark Hermann, etc.

But, as Dan Marino demonstrated throughout his career, having a phenomenal quarterback can only take you so far.

So, aside from our striking gold with drafting Peyton Manning, I think the single biggest key to the Colts' success this past decade has been GM Bill Polian. If he's not the best at what he does in terms of finding quality personnel to execute the strategies devised by him and his coaching staff, I don't know who is.

During Edgerrin James' return to Indy yesterday in the twilight of his career, I was reminded just how incensed I was that Polian passed on Ricky Williams for this James character out of Miami....and just how wrong I was so happy to have been.

Some of Polian's best personnel moves have been unexpected and even controversial. Some of the players that have become key contributors were relatively unheralded. And virtually none of them have been high profile (and expensive) busts. On top of that, most of them seem to be very classy people -- which is something they say they place a premium on.

I couldn't be prouder of the organization that Polian and Jim Irsay have put together.

As easy as it can be to point the finger at the coaching staff, this league is very simple. Have an elite QB. I'm not saying it's easy to find one, but I am saying that this league is built around an intelligent player behind center.

There is a reason the Colts have made the playoffs for however many years in a row and won 10+ games for what seems like eternity. You think it's Bob Sanders, Freeney, or the slew of RB's and REC's they've had over that time?

It's also no accident that the Patriots have been the modern era dynasty of the NFL.

Go take a look at the current standings and think to yourself what the winning teams and 0-4 teams have in common. Aside from just a couple of exceptions, it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that this is a QB league.

That is why I was shocked that we made NO MOVE to get Cutler. We had every other piece that it takes to be dynasty like EXCEPT THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. And, a proven leader was there for the taking, and we didn't even make an attempt. Hell, the Bears may be the one team in the league with a slew of WR's worse than ours and Cutler seems to be doing just fine after his initiation in week 1.

Ask yourself what the Colts fans would have thought had we acquired Cutler (or any top tier QB). As Peyton ages, they would all but hand the torch over to us.

Any team can have a fluke year...but to beat the best teams week in and week out, year in and year out it takes a top tier QB. There's a reason we are just good enough to make theh playoffs, but can never put an elite team away.

To prove my point, here is what is going to happen in the NFL....

-Broncos without a top tier QB will dissolve. Probably won't even make playoffs, but if they do, they will NOT win one
-EVERY team with the worst QB within the division will finish last
--Miami, Cleveland, Tennessee, (Oakland vs KC qb tough to decide), Detroit, Tampa, St. Louis

It is so obvious that this is a QB league, it blows me away that someone can be oblivious to this FACT.

Polian is a top 3 GM and the Colts consistency during the cap era is testimony to that.

Peyton is as much of a coach as a player. He's the ultimate. I'm a Titan fan, but I respect the heck out of Peyton for his smarts.

As was Elway, Montana and Young. An old, smart vet at the line is as important as the O-coord or QB coach.
