i just dont understand why our safeties were biting so hard on the play action. they hadn't run the ball succesfully all day and the stops on the run plays were being made by our LBs and DTs/DEs. there was no need for them to bite. we were shutting their run down at the LoS.

I was listening to Wycheck talk about this during the game. He said because the OL is so good, they give away the screen play. Apparently, when a DL isn't getting much penetration for most of the game and, all of a sudden, they find little resistance, they are scrambling back to bust up the screen.

I have no idea how much to buy into that but I agree it's time to dump the screen.

CJ was alone in the flat a lot yesterday. I'd like to see the Titans continue to feed him the ball out there until it no longer works. It should open up the middle more.

I understand you guys are gloomy after the past two weeks, but as an outsider, I'm not sure that the two are necessarily related. Yes, haynesworth was the lynchpin of your D; that's your major problem right now. Your schemes were all predicated on the fact that: 1) running up the middle on you was suicidal; and 2) you could generate pressure via a four man ruseh, particularly since Haynesworth demanded a double team (and often more) on every play. That doesn't mean last year's D was a fluke - but it does mean that your DC needs to figure out a new way of deploying his players now that Haynesworth is gone.

I should have said the secondary success of last season might be considered a fluke.

The Titans defense has been outstanding against the run. They've been exceptional so far. But teams are going to abandon the run because the passing game is so effective unless Cecil finds a way to get pressure on opposing QBs.

Our defense could not be better against the run the last 2 games.

Also haynesworth misses about half the plays.

Obviously we are better with a player like that than to not have him but that is no excuse here and we have had weak defenses with him here.

Our safeties not doing their job alone has cost us the 2 games.

Yup. Unfortunately, the Jets need that ground game . . .

BTW, I obviously haven't watched much of the Titans - are they stopping the run with just the front 4/7? Or are the safeties a big part of that?

That's why it burnt me up whenever I saw Griffin cheating up to help run support, when our front seven was easily containing Slaton and Mr. Glass; especially when his overzealousness on that one play cost us a TD.
