Sorry if it's been discussed before, but how do you feel about the overtime rules in the nfl?

Personally i think it's simply too easy to get into field goal range (yes i know we only hit 1 outta 3 FG's thursday night:p). I feel that the rules would be better if it's simply the first team to get a touchdown, instead of just points. Would make it a little bit more challenging for the offense.

So do you think the rules are good as they are, or do you prefer the college rules?

Remember this is just my personal opinion. Oh and first thread^^

I know the outcome doesnt always work in our favor (such as this past Thursday) but frankly I like it the way it is. The team that kicks off still has every opportunity to stop the opposing offense. Assuming a decent kick they (the winning coin toss team) has to move the ball a good 50 yards to get a field goal. If you can't stop then then you don't deserve to win is the way I see it ... yes it sucks we didnt touch the ball in thursdays game but we had our chances to win the game and it didnt come down to the coin toss. In fact it rarely does.

You can't put these players through too long of an overtime. Not only does the risk of injury go up, but it makes playing next weeks game at a disadvantage.

I'm not sure how many possessions each team had, but at a score of 10-10, that means each team only scored twice. That's less than half the time.

If you don't want to risk your overtime on a coin flip, there is plenty of time in regulation to get the job done.

I like it and I hate it... depends on what mood I'm in, frankly.

If the other team wins the coin toss... then it hinges on our defense to prove their worth.

Steelers could have scored a TD if they wanted to. they were moving the ball with no problem. dink, dunk, down the middle.

I also think if the Titans had won the TOSS we would have had to punt.

Cover Gage and Stevens is all they had to do.

I agree, it is. The CFL us the same system as college football. And, I don't like it.

But, I still think that each team should posess the ball at least once in OT.

College system is unfair because the team that gets the ball 2nd can use 4 downs to get 10 and score 7, while the first team is stuck with 3 downs to get 10 and then they must decide to kick the fg or whatever. So it's really less fair than the NFL. And I have no idea why people can't see that because it's a huge advantage for the 2nd team getting the ball. 4 downs to get 10 yards is major. At least in the NFL everything is equal.

i agree that the college rules are ridicolous.

I just feel, not just since after our game, that the OT rules in the NFL are a tad bit flawed, found this at the tennessean.com

"If college football's overtime rules are overkill, the NFL's sudden-death system is underwhelming. The percentages are strongly in favor of the team that wins the coin toss at the start of overtime"

The college system isn't that bad. It's at the least ENTERTAINING. It makes both teams FIGHT. Both sides of the ball.

That way if you're a team that's an offensive powerhouse- you can still win the game playing the style of ball that GOT you to overtime in the first place. Both sides have to play.

Now, the starting at the 30 or whatever is silly- but the rest is by far a much better and fair system to teams.
