Reading a post about picking up Chiefs QB, Thigpen, I got to thinking about this. Which are the Titans more suited for, a Scrambler or a Pocket passer?
We've had luck with Pocket Passers; Collins, O'Donnell and Vollek.
McNair was a good scrambler. Young was but, only in Texas!
Last year, the Titans inserted a few plays into the play book to prove that Collins could scramble if need be. Note here that those plays were only used on fields where Collins could run down hill! (On a good day, my Mom could run down Collins).
Weighing the difference, is it better to have a good scrabbling QB as a double threat vs an accurate pocket passer?

I take a statue who is an accurate passer any day. Most effective duel threat QBs I recall had the ability to stand in the pocket and make the pass when they needed it.

The best option is to have a good passer who can also run when called upon in my opinion.

If the question is good pocket passer who doesnt run vs bad pocket passer who can run then I take the good pocket passer who doesnt run.

I rather have a QB who can pass the ball and hand the ball to a running back for runs most the time.

Unless you have John Elway or Steve Young on your team scrambling ability hardly means a thing. In my opinion, ALL quarterbacks should be pocket passers FIRST, then any scrambling ability they have a.k.a. "mobility" is a bonus. The idea that a quarterback is a pocket quarterback or a mobile quarterback has proven itself to be stupid. Even though guys like McNair, McNabb or Vick leave the pocket on bootlegs they still can/could stand in the pocket and make a throw. It's part of the job.

McNair was a good QB that could scramble if need be. Would he be referred to as a scrabbling QB?
On the other side, we selected Vince because he scrabbled alot and made things happen with his legs and we took him knowing that he had a weird throwing motion. Similar situation as Micheal Vick maybe.
Because of our desire to be a run-first team, wouldn't it make sense to use a Vince or a Vick type QB?

give me a accurate passer who can thread the needle and has a strong arm.

VY can get the ball near you but it's up to the WR to try and get in position where only he can catch it. And now VY second guesses every running hole that opens up and by the time he decides to run he is tackled.

Collins is more accurate but he tends to throw deep balls to short or to far for the WR. Collins is good for passes under 30 yards. And he is pretty much as good as Peyton Manning at running.

He didn't earn the title "AirMcNair" by running for TD's... He could scramble. Doesn't mean he was a scrambler.

Gonna post what I did in the OGT thread about Vince..

Why do we keep trying to make Vince be a pocket passer? He does fantastic in the Shotgun-Hurry Up every year, and yet we keep forcing him to be a drop back QB. Fisher will never adapt to his players, he keeps trying to make them adapt to him, its not gonna work. Don't know why we go through this every year when VY is clearly a shotgun-hurry up QB.

He can be good if we actually tried making an offensive scheme for his skills instead of forcing him to change what he does best. He's not a pocket passer, and yet we keep acting like it's Kerry in there. He does his best work every year when he's in the two minute offense in shotgun. Go back and watch previous season series in those situations, its the same as what he did before the half. Moves the team with ease. And yet we keep treating him like he's Kerry.

We make accomidations for CJ and Lendale in the running game, using them in different situations, why not change the offense for Vince when he's in? Sounds like common sense to me.

How many points did he score from the two minute offense tonight? I'm not trying to be a total :grrr::grrr::grrr:, but I think it may be too late for that. If you identify the real strengths of our offense, you'll see why a spread offense won't work here. It ALMOST worked this once. Do it every game (that is always running a spread/no huddle offense) and see what happens.

If they had built an offense better suited for the spread early on, then maybe... My opinion is it still wouldn't have been successful. This isn't college.
