Reading comprehension. Whether he did or not, he had to say it. Why else did he seek out a reporter to say it? The only people that needed to know were the coaches. I'm not saying he was threatened by coaches or anything like that. I believe Hawkins is a lock on this team no matter what he said. Look at how long Paul Williams has been on the roster. I am saying he was likely told or asked to say it, and he said it, regardless if it is true or not.

    It's irrelevant because

A.) That pass was ugly, and gets intercepted regardless of the route.

B.) Young's entire performance in that game was shoddy at best. No need to blame Young's entire bad performance on one mistake by a WR.

I think Hawkins probably did run the wrong route but even if he did not would that have been a good pass? I'm going by memory since I have not seen it in a while but wasnt it thrown as just a lob jump ball in the area of 2 defenders? If I'm wrong I would understand. I do have a bad memory. :)

Yeah, this is confusing to me as well. If Hawkins had been in the vicinity of the pass he still would have had to fight off two db's to prevent the interception. It seems that two mistakes were made on that play, but blame is being directed exclusively towards Hawkins.

I'm failing to see why you think Hawk had to say that?
Maybe he was just being a good teammate by saying that. Kinda like when Mac9 would always take the blame even if the WR dropped the ball. That's how a team works. You look out for one another.
Hawk still ran the wrong route.

    *facepalm and shakes head*
We've discussed this play ad nauseum. I watched that play over and over and over again. And like I told whoever I proved wrong the last time, you obviously aren't a physics major, or even minor.
I'll reiterate what I said. Theoretically if Hawk keeps running, that pass hits him in the midsection. Now it may not have been a text book pass to where he could have perfectly caught it in stride to keep running, but 1. it was a catchable pass and 2. had he kept running straight, it wouldn't have gotten picked off. At worst, he would have fought the DB and it gets batted down. No pick. The DB wouldn't have been standing where he was had Hawk ran straight because Hawk would have ran into him and the DB would have been called for PI. Hawk would have been in between the DB and the pass.

Maybe, but it wouldn't have gotten picked off. Would you rather that pass get batted down or picked off?

With the much bigger mistake being made by Hawkins. See my explanation above.

Not arguing with you there, nor were we blaming his bad performance on one mistake by a WR. But we can analyze one play at a time.

I'm not saying that people who don't like VY as a QB do it out of disdain. What I'm saying is those who are driven by that disdain will often overlook anything good he does and at the same time blow out of proportion anything that can be view in a negative light. Hey, is not mandatory to like him or hate him, but it is fascinating sometimes the length some are willing to go just to dish to the point of not even appear rational.

I can understand the terms of lover and hater but it is SO obvious that you're being a hater because you're going WAY over in the statements that you've made.

    1. You don't know if the pass was ugly or not because the incorrect route was run.

    2. How can you throw an INT and a TD and have it referred as shoddy? If anything, one would say it was average.

    Watched the play again.
    Some things I noticed.
The DB was trying to keep Hawk from getting behind the coverage and was ahead of him.
The DB put on the brakes and jumped up to get the ball. Like I've said, if you use simple physics and calculate/draw up the trajectory of the pass, you'll see that the pass would have been chest level about 2 steps ahead of where the DB picked it. That's right about the spot where Hawk would have been if he'd kept running straight.
Since the DB was ahead of Hawk, and a bit to his left, Hawk would have been in between the DB and the pass and could have used his body to shield the DB should there have been a fight for the ball.
Oh, and there were no other defensemen within 5 yards of the DB when he picked it, so Vince didn't throw it into multiple coverage.
He also stayed in the pocket and stepped into the throw, knowing the RDE was a step and a half behind him. I'd like to see him play with that poise all the time.
That said, this is only Vince's performance on one play and not as a whole.

Thx earlers, now add this vid plus TBC's post:

    And it actually makes sense.
For any1 who doesn't understand TBC's post, he was saying that you all are looking at it like the defender would have been in the same spot, even if hawk ran the right route. However if hawk ran a different route then the defender would have been on either side of him which makes it a catchable ball. Hawk would have at least had a chance.

I don't think the Music City Miracle was discussed as much.
