Good article. Spot on about lots of stuff, including his perception of local and national media attitudes, not to mention fans. While not all have those attitudes, plenty do and its been very telling.

This article is spot on in ALOT of Ways IMO! Let's be clear, the Titans D improved dramatically between 06 and 07. But there is no denying Young came into a situation that was Far from a Best Case Scenario.

Obviously, Vince came in and clearly brought a spark to this team as a rookie. And I don't believe Jeff Fisher stays on as Head Coach had we not gone on the winning streak that we did.

In 2007 it can be said that Vince regressed. FACT! But it is also true that Vince was not healthy throughout the Year. He certainly was bothered by his quad injury and lingering hamstring soreness. It's also True that he was asked to do more as a Passer with less overall talent/experience surrounding him at the skill positions than his rookie year.

In 2008, whether we choose to believe it or not: Vince says he felt tightness in his legs during the TV Timeout. Some choose to take him at his Word, while others choose to believe he quit on his team. I choose to believe he was Hurt and upset by the Boos and was also physically bothered by his legs. (Up to that point he'd had all of one rushing attempt)

For the most part the writer has pretty much Nailed My feelings about the way in which Vince has been received locally and Nationally since his decision to go Pro. And it's Blatantly obvious that the local media including Jim Wyatt, Paul Kuharsky, David Climer, etc. have an Ax to grind in there reporting. They clearly favored Leinart or Cutler, (As did Fisher) and have continued to politic to see the Vince Young era come to an end.

And whether many choose to believe it or not, the local fans are influenced by the Local Media and the Cutler angle is REAL! The local fanbase that preferred Cutler will always wonder What If? Regardless of his Cutler's stats, W/L record, he'll always be Nashville's favorite son.

Vince was widely regarded as the Least NFL ready of the Big 3 QB's coming out in 2006 yet he was thrust into action first. As a fan I'd love the Titans to allow this thing to play out and give the guy a chance to Mature and succeed! But I'd also like Vince do less talking in the Media and More Continued focus on Maturing and Growth as a Player.

That's like asking "has Dan Marino ever won a Super Bowl?"

He is not Christ, himself. Neither is Cutler. You wait... Cutler will make the playoffs many, many times... and win many, many big games.

    Why?

They both have the same ideas... the question is making the assumption that the quarterback is responsible for the team's success or failure which is simply not true.

There are 52 other players on the team and 21 other starters. No quarterback can do it on his own. Each player has their contributions. The QBs generally contribute the most, but Jay Cutler clearly has what it takes to make it all the way. He had a great season last year and going 8-8 with the 29th scoring defense is pretty impressive.

Winning a superbowl is a whole lot damn harder then getting to the playoffs in the worst division in the NFL.

And it's always on the QB, fairly or not.

True... I just think people give Cutler way too hard of a time because he hasn't made the playoffs. I was using the question as a comparison to the whole "QBs are responsible for the whole team" basis.

You simply cannot win a Super Bowl with a crappy defense. Hell, Vince has a better shot at winning the big game with us than Cutler did with Denver.

I edited my post, it's always on the QB.

The QB may be the leader of the team, but there's no way you can say it's all on them to win.

Certain QBs have different roles and they can't always help it if the team wins or loses. Great QBs have won Super Bowls. Average QBs have won Super Bowls. Horrible QBs have won Super Bowls.

He played their 3 years, and wasnt even the starter for the first half of his rookie year. Not to mention, his defense, especially last year was terrible. It is certainly way to early to compare him to Marino or any other legendary QB. It is also way to early to bring up his playoff history, since he has not really been on teams capable of being playoff teams, with the possible exception of his rookie year where he replaced Plummer halfway through.
