I don't agree with the decisions that Steve had made with his personal life (DUIs, cheating on his wife).
But I am trying to take away whatever positives I can from his example: His toughness, desire to win, and willingness to what it takes to get the job done

I think most of you are missing the point! We all loved Steve because of what he did on the field, and what he did in the community period. His personal life between his wife, mother, brother, cousins, or girlfriends is none of our damn bussiness! It is sad that he did what he did, devistating to his wife and kids, and not very role model for our youth. But again it is none of our bussiness and the best lesson we can teach our children is even our hero's are not immune to making mistakes. You make choices, you pay the consiquense, however I am sure Steve never thought the price would come this high. Weather he had marital problems, was having an affair is between him, his wife, his girlfriend, and god, not us.

This guy is just the most insensitive jerk i have ever heard of. He couldn't even have waited until a week after his death to begin criticizing. Nope he decides to throw it all out there now. Until McNairs wife tell everyone what really was going on, i don't care what anyone says. And his title was just outrageous. Don't be so quick to call mcnair a hero? Are you serious. since when does a mans personal life, involve everyone else? How does he even know if his wife wanted their marriage to be discussed right now? Bottom line some people remember McNair for the great things he did over his entire career and some remember McNair for the speculation of him messing around another woman. I think i'll take the high road and remember him for the things i know he has done, not for what's being speculated. He was a tough, hard-working leader, on and off the field, who has given back to his community numerous amounts of time. He was and still is, the ultimate team player, and i will never forget him.

I think all of us should be honest with ourselves here. When I first heard of McNair's death I had not heard of the girl friend or anything about the case. My first reaction was "what the heck".

But when I began to get the facts it became pretty clear that McNair played with fire and got burned. Obviously he didn't deserve to die but we can make the same argument about someone driving drunk (McNair did that as well) and killing people or getting killed, someone doing drugs and dying because of it or a myriad of other things. People that do stupid things often pay a high price for their stupidity.

Take Stallworth as an example. The guy killed someone. What a scum! Well McNair drove drunk or with someone who was drunk on a number of known occasions and certainly there were many others where he didn't get caught. What was the reason someone didn't get killed on those occasions? Pure luck.

Now we have an example of an idiot cheating on his wife with someone young enough to be his daughter, buying the woman an Escalade (certainly this woman was cracked in the head to begin with) and then paying a price for his stupidity. McNair probably promised this girl (she certainly wasn't a woman) the moon. Probably did say he was going to get a divorce and marry her (ah, we have people justifying his behavior if marital problems were for real). The way I see it McNair was thinking with the wrong head (which probably has more brains than the one on top anyway). Just like driving drunk you might not have a bad effect from a stupid cause but the odds catch up to an idiot eventually. What if he didn't die but she shot herself only. Does that make things better?

Bottom line, if this happened to a politician or just about anyone besides a former Titans QB who was a darn good football player we would be nominating the guy for a Darwin award. Sorry. McNair had his head up his arse and paid a price for it. On top of that he tarnished what reputation he had like it or not. He did it! No reason to make excuses for the guy....just be sad things happened like they did...

Oh, what example can we show our kids from this? "Hey Billy, play hard like McNair on the field and be an idiot off". No, the best example is the same on we have for a myriad of rock stars, movie stars and other athletes. "See Billy, that person was blessed by God with massive amounts of talent and made millions of dollars and the thanks they had for it was to destroy themselves like idiots".

You know, having an affair and losing all your wealth in a divorce settlement is playing with fire and getting burned.

Getting murdered over it is something different.

I'll disagree that driving while under the influence and not killing someone is ONLY attributed to luck.

I think other factors are involved, for example general driving skill.

    ABSOLUTELY.

Do you really lump murderers and people who commit suicide in the same category?

Would you really lump either of the above in the same category as someone who committed murder AND suicide?

Really? What are people's views on Clinton? or Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie?

Sure they lose some following and respect to some... but if Brad Pitt died tomorrow I wouldn't think "what a scumbag he once had an affair on Jennifer Anniston." I would think, "he was in some movies I really liked and seemed to do a lot of charitable work in his life."

    For some but not all.

I hate to break it to you. McNair made the mistake of having an affair. But.. he is the VICTIM in the situation.

Again I do not understand the view that "have an affair with a woman, expect to be murdered". There are repercussions to be considered, but murder isn't a very likely repercussion of an affair.

I don't think anyone is saying that he deserved to die. I think it's legit to say that made some bad decisions though, and those decisions led to his death. Those are two different statements, by the way.

I think McNair should be remembered as an amazing football player and leader on the field and in the locker room. I think he should be remembered as someone who did a lot of good charity work. I think he should also be remembered as someone who made some bad decisions and had something terrible happen to him. Is there any reason that his death shouldn't be remembered as a cautionary tale? Not that "that's what happens when you sleep around," but just how quickly a bad decision can spiral out of control.

We don't really have any evidence that he had multiple affairs, other than the secondhand source from the family and/or friends of the girl that killed him. Obviously, she had some issues, so we might want to wait before we assume that it was true.

His wife is not the mother of two of the children. Do you think they met while he was married to the mother of those children? (I don't know if he had ever been married before) What I am saying is she knew what she was getting into and probably knew what was going on, it is obvious that he was making no attempt to hide his infidelity.
