SUMMARY: Despite being 38 and coming off of elbow surgery, Kevin Mawae has no plans to retire anytime soon. "I want to play this game as long as I possibly can. I love playing the game. It’s never been about the money, it’s about the enjoyment of the game," said Mawae. Mawae has been rehabbing since his elbow surgery after the season and hopes to be ready by training camp. Even though his contract with the Titans ending after the '09 season and Leroy Harris waiting in the wings to start, the '08 NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowler hasn't thought about leaving the game he's played for 15 seasons. "I would love to stay here. I would love to. I’ve talked to Jeff. I’ve talked to Mike Munchak," Mawae said. "This is where I want to finish up my career, and if I can get a few more years, so be it. If not, we’ll have to re-evaluate it. But I have no plans on retiring after this season, so we’ll see."

Interesting to hear. Was Harris on a three year contract, or a four? Sorry, I can't look it up right now. I'd think how we handle Mawae will depend on how long we can keep Harris under contract at a backup price level.

Harris over Mawae after this season, no matter what the outcome.

If another starter spot doesn't open up ... then Mawae is my pick to be a salary cap casuality. Sorry.

    Can't sac the youth.

How could ANYONE live with theirself giving up Leroy for one or maybe two years of Mawae?

    I mean, REALLY?

Don't be in such a hurry to move past Mawae. His leadership on the line has helped make it better than it's been in years. Though aging, Mawae is a pro-bowl calibur center. I don't have a clue what kind of player Harris may become, although I do remember several bad snaps (mis-timed/low) from Harris when he's had a chance to play.

Yeah, he's getting old, but being young doesn't make Harris the successor in my book. Maybe he's the next guy, but I'm with-holding judgment.

I still think he has 2 or 3 years left in the tank...linemen usually last a long time..

He won't make it through all 16 games. He's been in the league a long, long time. It's time to hang it up after this season.

At some point you have to go to youth, Mawae would be a hell of line coach when he hangs em up.
