Yes. I went off on a rant and was wrong to do so, both because I was incorrect and because it threw the thread off topic. My apologies.

I've been catching up on this season of Hell's Kitchen and I think listening to too much Gordon Ramsey has negatively rubbed off on me.

Back on topic- Paul Williams sucks, Chris Henry sucks, and Craig Stevens is lining up to join them. :)

There seem to be two arguments within this thread.
One is last years news, get over it, Stevens was drafted. If you want to rate the draft, give him three years or at least one more where they test him and he gets a chance to play. Playing behind Scaife and Crumpler he wasn't able to get much playing time to show what he can do or learn at game speed.

The second issue is what contribution, if any, he will make to the team this season.

Last year he was on Kick off Returns, Kick Offs and the extra point squad. He was used as the 3rd TE on short yardage plays as a blocker. He had three pass plays. (I watched him closely, since I'm related, and that is all I can remember) One pass was in an early season game, like his third game as a pro where he only got one foot in the endzone, oops, he was a rookie afterall. One pass on third down that he caught for 7 yards and a first down, then one thrown at his feet, spiderman couldn't have caught that ball.

With the exception of his Senior year at Cal he played behind another TE who had good hands and got most of the pass play calls. He actually has pretty good hands for a TE which I hope he gets a chance to show off this year.

What are his chances of getting playing time to show that? Who knows, it will probably take an injury.
Don't confuse your frustration with the 3rd round pick of a TE with the value of a player. There are many players in the league who are starters now and spent their first years on special teams.
Not that the coaches are always right but they must see something in practice that made them call the rookie's number for pass plays on third down plays.

    Great 20/20 call there gloat.

Either we dropped the ball on that one or they just were not high enough on jackson to make that move. Our third rd pick is what it would have cost to move up 6 spots to get that player.

Rather than using 20/20 hindsight on what we could have done simply tell us what player that was available in rd 3 would have been a better pick. The best player on the board when we picked in rd 3 was steve slaton.

    20/20 special!

Trade down a few picks in rd 1 and get an extra 3rd rd pick.

Use the later 1st on desean jackson, 2nd on jones, one 3rd on slaton and the other third on stevens.

There we get stud RB, stud WR, great DL prospect and still have our project TE!

I'd be very curious what Craig thought about us drafting Jared Cook.

I think most people see Stevens taking over for Crumpler after this season, fwiw.

I think drafting cook cements steven's role on the team in the future because what he does best is cook's major weakness.

Looks like we are going to have a platoon system at TE in 2010 and 2011. earl weaver would be proud.
