its crazy...by the 2nd page everything changes on these forums hahha.

didnt those guys go on strike while back...that aint premier...haha...nah nah..i actually got into hockey couple years ago....like watching it..and its a very fun sport to play and watch (used to play roller hockey all the time...we were physical........K2 250cc's for lyfe hahah....roller hocky i felt is more dangerous...we'd be flyin on the steets...w/o pads..flyin to the floor too)

nyway i dont feel it. ppl be gettin hit all the time yeah...and yeah skatin is usually faster...but....in fact from all the games i've watched i've actually never seen some1 get injured...and i've seen a BUCNH of em... thing is on the ice you get hit, its different than on land w/ studs that get caught everywhere, limps in precarious positions, hard big helmets, low tackles, gang tackles.. c'mon guys....where to you see more injuries...i honostly can't remember the last nfl game i saw where no1 got injured...seriously

and i would like for some1 to read my initial post...no its long ...but if some ppl here took the time to read it....they'd see it argues for a better distribution of the money more than anything else (wihch in order to happen would need to pay em more as i dont see them primodonas taking pay cuts...)

and yes during these dead times...i look for anything to make some noise on these boards

That has to include college professors in that average. I studied to be a teacher, got out of school and they offered me 27k a year. No thanks, bought a truck and made more than that in the first 4 months. Teachers get the shaft. Athletes, actors, politicians, it's all bs. I agree that what ever the market will bear is what they can claim, but I think it is all going to come crashing down soon.
I'm a race fan as well. Nascar was growing so fast that it was ridiculous just 5 years ago. Now the cost of competition, drivers, the economy, and just overall greed by everyone involved with the sport has driven away a huge chunk of the fan base. I have two tickets to the all star race in Charlotte tomorrow that I literally can't GIVE away. It will happen with other sports as well. Ask the Yankees how their new seats are selling. They have to pay A-roid somehow, but the fans are like F-U. Every sports is going to follow that same path sooner than later. It's unfortunate, and hard to believe. But, I never would have believed nascar would have crashed and burned the way it is if you had asked me in say 2004.

    Humpy still alive?

Got to go to the Coca-Cola 600 back in 2003ish, my wife won some contest. Anyhow Nascar just has too be seen live too be appreciated. Tickets were stupid expensive though. Charlotte did a good job of getting people too and from the race although that is only relative cause it was still a pain in the behind.

As far as teacher $$ goes addimitadly they start out $30ish, but once they have been teaching for just a few years the pay scale kicks in and with continuing education, thanks Lamar!, tons of teachers are making +$50k. Thing too remember is that $$$ is for 10 months - at most - actual work. And yes I realize that teachers are required to do more than the 7 hours a day they are at work. Plus all the major holidays and scheduled weeks off in the spring and fall plus the summer off and sick/maternity ect...

If you can handle the job, and I could not, then the pay vs benefits are attractive IMO. It just always strikes me that people just assume that these public servants don't make good money.

Now if you want to argue that teachers should be paid more vs police then I am all in agreement with you. Would love too see 99% of all cops paid a nickle over minimum, although that would make them $0.05 overpaid IMO

Firemen make good money, more than teachers. They work 3 days a week and get paid too sleep if nothing is on fire. Uncle was a fireman and he had it made. Always had side gigs lined up for his off-time. He did the side gigs cause he WANTED the $$$ not because he needed it. Paid for his house on the lake, not near the lake. Had a boat dock and a speed boat ect. Policemen make about the same as Firemen without contributing anything to anyone except annoying the crap out of hard working people. Where were the cops when that couple were carjacked and tortured/raped - yep both of them - and killed in Knoxville a year or so ago??? thats right NOWHERE that mattered. They showed up in droves to place the toetags on the victims though - good job boys now off too krispy kreme with the lot of youse.

Don't know too much about EMS. Is a job I know I could not do. My bet is that they are paid similar to Firemen/Police, but would not be shocked if it was less. Gotta be a tough job from an emotional standpoint though and probably as dangerous as Police/Firemen cause they gotta drive like crazedmen thru, around and over traffic.

Sounds like you have a underlying problem with public servicemen? A teacher working here in florida cannot afford to live unless they are married or share a house with someone. You seem to forget that not all college proffessors are the ones that do research. Many of them actually teach, all week long and at night. Police Officers are there for more reasons than to just bother you. Lets see you drive to the store and get shot up, because those annoying police officers werent there to protect you. Most police forces are understaffed and underpaid, work long hours, and live in constant fear of attack.

You wanna talk about striking not making a sport premeire? How about baseball when they went on strike back in the 90s? Oh, and IIRC that strike cancelled the world series. You said premiere...baseball is our national sport (it is, look it up). It doesn't get anymore premiere than that.

80 games vs. 16, 9 months vs. 17 weeks. full pads (which allow someone to hit harder) vs. faceless helmet and gloves
You normally don't 'see' the injuries in hockey because they are usually minute (broken fingers, busted teeth, nasty bruises, etc.) and several players can incur them in a game. Just because you don't see something in a game...on TV...doesn't mean it didn't happen.

As for that, I don't think anyone is going to argue it, as most of us would probably agree with it.
I'm ALL for a rookie pay scale/cap. I mean it's pretty bad when teams tend to trade DOWN in the first round so they don't have to pay that high draft pick so much.

doesnt bother me, i think they shouldnt make more money than they already do.

in fact if fans would take the money they blow on sports items, tickets etc... and spend it on improving roads or feeding staving kids the world would be a better place.

Would you rather feed 50 starving kids this year or go see a football game so a player can buy 3 more Hummers with spinners ? ? ? ?

I watch on T.V. so I could care less about stadium tickets. Yeah it would be better if people helped their community rather than blow money on sports stuff.

how does the "danger" of football factor into what player get paid?? how many people died from playing football, while actually playing football?? there are plenty of more dangerous jobs out there that you could actually die doing, and those guys aren't getting paid millions. Dumb to compare football to any other job at all. The statement and argument should be that players should get larger share of the PROFITS of football, but at the same time more of the profits should be going back into the community, rather that local cities/states paying for stadiums etc. out of taxpayers money, so that owners and everyone else can make a bunch of money.
