    Well said starkiller.

When i talked about a fat DT who just takes up space for some reason gut immediately thought of AH. Not sure why.

In our system the Dts play on the shoulder of the guard and only have one gap responsibility but are expected to get upfield as well as to occupy one blocker.

I was never bashing guys for simply being big.

Yeah, too bad he'll be gone way before pick #32 if he plays as well as we all expect him to this year. ;)

"Experts" going against the Titans is inevitable. I'm sure a good 70% of "experts" forgot about the Titans when it came to the playoffs. These are the teams they probably mentioned for the AFC playoffs: Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Steelers, Jags, Jets (or Browns). And NFC playoffs: Cowboys, Vikings, Bucs, Seahawks, Giants, Eagles.

Idiots... Assuming those lists are correct, they absolutely suck at predicting the playoffs... 6/12 correct. sucks pretty bad. I made horrible predictions last year, yet still came away with 7/12 correct.

    Tide, tide, tide...

You're very funny! But here's a reality check...

Ideally, you want a DT who can stuff a double team against the run, who can shed a block and tackle, a guy who's quick enough to penetrate when a OG pulls, and a guy who's a dominant pass rusher. Since there are few of the above in one player...AH being one of them...you look for guys to fit a scheme. Hence the term...one gap penetrator.

HOWEVER, virtually every 4-3 D will align it's DT's the same way...one in a 3 technique (outside shoulder of the OG...for your best penetrator) and a 1 technique (outside should of OC or in the A gap between the OC/OG for your best run defender/double team stacker). In this alignment, the 1 technique usually gets double teamed on a combo block so the OC helps turn the DT and then he goes for the MLB. Looking at our roster, most of our DT's are exactly the same...light guys who are quick and can penetrate from a 3 technique. Problem is...who's playing a 1 technique? Since we have TBrown, Haye, JJones and Vickerson to play a 3 technique, it would have been nice to get someone who can stuff a double team and help the team stuff the run. TBrown is OK at handling a DT but he doesn't usually need to do it more than a few times in a game. Not sure if Haye can do it but most people call him a 3 tech DT. It would have been helpful to get a runstuffing DT who can stack a double team.

As previously mentioned, against the Ravens in the playoff game, when we had Vickerson and JJones at DT on 3rd and short, they both got doubled and both got blown off the ball...couldn't stack and hold the LOS. This could be a real problem next year...or we'll have to depend on Tulloch, Bulluck and Thronton to fight through a lot more trash to get to the ball carrier next year (something that goes AGAINST the philosophy of the D).

So adding another DT in rnd 2 who's weak, doesn't work out hard, seems to keep getting injured and doesn't stack a double team well...seems like a bit of a waste except if you project that TBrown is gone after this season and JJones might have to move to LDE. But Marks is a bit of a project. If he doesn't work his tail off, he won't be a difference maker in the NFL. So outside of depth, he doesn't give us the things our DL is lacking (a run stuffing DT). I don't call this good value...especially with the risks involved.

And in case you're unaware, AH was a top 15 pick. Not too many of those fall to the end of rnd 2. I'm more interested in how a player plays than is he 300 or 335. As for your question about size/quickness of an AH, there were at least 2 guys with similar size/speed available at the end of round 2 (neither of whom I would have taken in rnd 2). I'm sure you can figure out who they are if it concerns you.

But that doesn't matter in the least to me. There were better players available at different positions...which is the point. We also would have been better trading up to get a better player who's also at a position of need...or simply a significantly better player with less risk.

    Well...

The FACT is that AH was drafted when he was 320lbs. But according to AH (what he told Phil Simms), he's been playing at 340lbs the last 2 years...hence my description of him as 340lbs.

Which Titans DT would you play at 1 technique and be confident they can hold up a double team on most running downs?
