I bet Britt will become better than Percy Harvin and Crabtree.

I can see Harvin being a bust. He was in a specific type of offensive system (spread) that allowed him to do the things he is good at (run in lots of space). However, I don't think that that will be his role in the NFL and I don't know that he will be very productive. Crabtree, he is big, strong, and a true receiver...I think he will be fine.

I agree....more than likely Crabtree will be a good receiver....but judging that position is very difficult...ask the lions about Charles Rogers and Mike Williams

Same thing applies to Britt....hope...pray...and wait and see

How are Manningham and Nicks comparable receivers? And where did you get that he was 6'1"? Even the Giants have him listed as 5'11" and 183... He's actually the same height as Harvin, only slower and less muscular.

I am a huge Harvin fan, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm not sure how he'll do in the NFL. I think his injury problems are a red flag, but his attitude issues have been completely blown out of proportion. Obviously, the pot issue is another matter... one which I will not attempt to defend. What I do know is that Harvin has been the most explosive player on the field every time he steps on it... to say that he is just speed is a mistake. He is "sudden", agility is off the charts. And just because he hasn't run NFL routes on a regular basis does not affect his hands, which are very good. With a creative offense, he can be extraordinarily good... If he gets hurt, or smokes a lot of pot, he'll be a bust. I just think it's hilarious how many people on the board are so down on him, especially if you've seen him play more than once. The guys was dominant against everyone he played.

However, now that Britt is on the team... I'll be his number one fan.

the point I was trying to state wasn't that just cos he was amazing in high school and no other player in the state could measure up to Percy that he would be the same way in the NFL, the point was that he isn't just a running back, he is familiar with playing wide out as thats what he did in high school primarily. The kid has potential but i'm glad we didn't pick him up because of his attitude. I think it was my junior or senior year, when Landstown high(his high school) played Salem High school, he and a few other players went into the girl's locker room and wrecked it, i think pissed all over it too. That and he had a bad attitude and overly :grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr:y and has been smoking weed since then and probably won't stop lol. Only thing is, we all make bad judgment calls in our early teenage years and i think Percy has learned from his mistakes and will adjust. I can only hope though, because after Plaxico, Elite NFL players that come from Virginia Beach have a bad rep lol.

Crabtree is a player that shows a lot of character to go with his potential, he seems to have his head on his shoulders. I hope Britt develops soon and makes a difference for our offense, but I'm not expecting us to become a pass happy offense anyways. I'd be upset if we started running less and passing more but with the offensive upgrades we got this off season & draft it should balance the ability to make plays in both pass and run. Last year every time we threw the ball I feared a waste of a down, this season, i'm hoping I don't have that fear.

    Huh?

What does "has been linked" mean? Braylon Edwards was a top 5 pick. Britt went 30th and NO WR in this draft went top 5. In addition, DHB, Crabtree, Maclin and Nicks all went ahead of him. Now I'm not saying Britt can't be as good as Edwards or better, but none of the teams think he's as good...which is why he goes 30th.

Of course we'd all be thrilled if Britt came in and played like a bonafide Pro Bowl caliber WR every year. But don't get your hopes up. Give him a chance to get acclimated before you expect pro bowl seasons...

Childress in Minnesota is an offense guy and HE's the one who picked Harvin. Virtually everyone who has watched Harvin play more than 5 times would agree he's pretty much the best player on the field no matter what team he's been on. I think Childress plans on letting him continue to do the things he did at Fla...play the slot, run it a few times out of spread formations and return punts. He WILL try to get him the ball in space so he can do what he does best...make big plays. And the fact that Harvin is in a relatively mediocre/poor division helps...as does the fact that he's playing in a dome on turf! While Crabtree, Nicks, Britt and Robiskie have to get coached up in perfecting routes and stuff, Harvin will be able to get on the field from day 1...as will Maclin. Less routes from the slot...smaller packages and impact as returners.

His downside is he gets too banged up to be as explosive as he was in college or he smokes his way out of the NFL. Very few players who have tested positive for weed get kicked out for that. Harvin will either put his troubles behind him or they will wreck his career. He has hall of fame upside but also is a bust rick as well.

I think Nicks could do very well in the giants system...especially since they like to depend on scheme to get WR's open (double and triple moves). Nicks downside is that he's not that fast and his upside may only be as a #2 guy. Same was said for Boldin.

Britt is an interesting case. He had great production in college and was clearly the #1 WR on his team. Upside is...he's big and has decent speed with long arms and good bulk. He runs good patterns and is strong. He CAN highpoint the ball and can be a viscious blocker in the ground game. Downside is...grumblings of coachability issue...as in Keyshaun or Moss not playing to potential when they don't get the ball early...attitude problem? He's also not a natural hands catcher. When the ball comes to him from his waist to his shoulder he tends to cradle the ball as it gets into his body. This will lead to inconsistency. And many have said that was earlier in his career...he did it during the gauntlet at the combine. He's also not a great stack'em run blocker. While he gives some highlight reel crackblock...we need him to be that good against the CB in front of him or slanting in to take out the S. Britt has tremendous upside...perhaps Plaxico Burress at his prime good. But he needs to work on his hands, lose the attitude (which he sounds like he's doing saying all the right things in his press conference), perfect his routes, and become a beast of a run blocker. All doable. His downside is...an inconsistent shows you enough to keep him WR but doesn't become a #1 and barely an inconsistent #2.

DHB has speed bust written all over him. He's got good size and athleticism and truly elite stopwatch speed in shorts. But you don't see that speed in gamefilm when you see CB's and S's catch him. Not as elusive and not as strong to break tackles as you'd like. Can be effective run blocking but not a strong suit. Doesn't run good patterns and inconsistent hands. Due to his size and elite speed combo, he has probably the third best upside, but the biggest questions in reaching it. Could become a Javon Walker type WR or not able to put it altogether in the NFL.

Maclin also has a lot of work to do learning to run routes. He could explode immediately as a slot and returner, but ultimately needs to improve his routes if he's gonne be more than that.

I like how you broke down the good and the bad for every wide out and I agree with what you are saying. Just as long as Britt works hard at becoming a legit NFL wide out and doesn't become another inconsistent ball dropper then I wont have much to worry about.

Gut - Larry Fitz ran a 4.7 ONCE. That doesn't mean that's his speed. If you seriously think he runs as slow as most defensive linemen, you're out of your mind.

He runs about a 4.5. No receiver today is running 4.7s and making plays upfield. Sorry.

For three years, starting at the age of 15, Fitzgerald was a ball boy for the Minnesota Vikings.
