NFL Draft '09: Pick #173 - Javon Ringer, RB, Michigan State

Probably one of the coolest pics I have seen on this board in a long time. You deserve a high five for the hot dog. Ringer will deliever.

 

Is this kid fast?

 

The Good: A small, compact runner with good vision and burst at the line of scrimmage. Is a patient back who allows his blockers to set up and then explodes into daylight. Runs with good power and leverage, bounces off tackles and gets up to speed quickly. Does a nice job sinking his hips into cuts and changes directions very cleanly at the line of scrimmage.
The Bad: Is a bit undersized and has a lot of treat on his tires, having carried the ball 843 times at Michigan State. Lacks much wiggle and won’t make many defenders miss in space.

I'm a big fan of this pick.

 

Ringer was expected to be in the Heisman race before injury. As a Michigan (NOT STATE) fan, I can tell you first hand he's a steal in the 5th. I'd think he was a steal in the 3rd.

And I thought I'd be upset today... quite the opposite.

 

Based on his history alone, I like the guy.

 

He looks like a North/South runner too.

I am real happy about this pick more than anyone other than Britt. I think if Dinger keeps his carries down he could along with CJ be our answer at RB for the next 5 years or so. And bye-bye to Lendale next seasons FA Haynesworth type playing for the money.

 

Alternating carries with CJ will help keep his carries down.
