Seems like the PS3 has better hardware (for now?) but the XBOX has more games. Don't want to start a one sux vs the other, but is the PS3 worth the xtra $?

Xbox 360 Elite I only had one problem so far with it. It is a really good system

It comes down to personal preference.

Look at the games on both systems and see which ones interest you. Multi-plat games are pretty much identical (don't let fanboys fool you otherwise) so look at the exclusives.

PS3 also double as a Blu-ray player, has free online, and wifi inbuilt.

360s online isn't all that much in terms of cost and wifi will only matter if the 360 is far away from your modem.

(that is if you are interested in online playing).

I have both and they both have an excellent line-up.

    there's the winner right there.

with exclusivity becoming less common it pretty much comes down to the few exclusives you want to play (gears 2 vs killzone 2 for instance) and hardware.

why get a new 360 for 200 then buy a new blu-ray player 300 when you can buy a ps3 for 400 and play pretty much the same games? plus, there's a much smaller chance of it turning into a $200 paper weight.

Honestly, I own an XBOX 360 because I bought it before PS3 was released, and I really like it. But Gunny is right, it does come down to personal preferance. If you are going to be watching a ton of movies, then the PS3 is the way to go, because blu-ray looks incredible. And the PS3 is still probably the cheapest blu-ray player around. But you can't really go wrong either way. One of the underrated things on the XBOX though is the ability to stream Netflix from your XBOX. I've caught up on at least three television shows by being able to watch them straight from my XBOX. Pretty cool if you ask me.

bigtitan makes a good point about exclusivities becoming less common and I think this is where Sony is ahead. They own about 20 or so studios, whereas Microsoft has 3 or so and Nintendo 7 or so.

This is a bit down the track and probably irrelevant to 360/PS3, but it is something worth keeping an eye on.

everyone that's responded has been right

    what's YOUR personal preference ...

hardcore vs. casual gamer/ movie buff vs. what's Blu-Ray again?

I personally went with the Xbox, but I'm not a serious gamer nor do I really care about Blu-ray quality movies right now.

If you must have Halo and GOW, get a 360 Elite. Otherwise, the PS3 is a MUCH stronger machine, much more powerful. It plays Blu Ray, which IS a big deal because a cheap end Blu Ray is around $250 and they are becoming the standard in movies. Eventually, unless you already do, you will probably own an HDTV, and a Blu Ray player is absolutely phenomenal in 1080p. PS3 games will be getting much better for many years to come, simply because developers haven't even got close to creating games that harness anywhere near all of its power. Not to mention, every person I know who has or does own an X Box 360, including the Elite, have had overheating issues and had to send it to microsoft to get repaired.

If you couldn't tell, I am a satisfied PS3 owner. Like I said, Halo and Gear of War are two games that are bad a$s and exclusive to the 360. If that's enough to make you want to cop a 360 then go for it. Otherwise its ps3 all day

the new 'jasper' units are solid
