Nate's post got me thinking of a question for Vince Young supporters.

What makes you believe he will succeed?

And don't say anything like "He just wins." He doesn't just win. We went from 10-6 to 13-3 without him, we were very bad in turnover +/- ratio last year, and this year we were closer to the top in the league. Also, the records are deceiving due to the last game of the year for both years of 2007 and 2008. So, the records are more like 9-6 vs. 13-2. He didn't just win. Kerry Collins "just wins." Ben Roethlisberger "just wins." So that answer being thrown out, what about his behavior and temperament and development from his Rookie year give you the opinion that he WILL succeed?

Because you cannot deny that the cold, hard data says he will not. You also cannot deny that watching film of him from 2006 to 2007 and his complete step backwards in all ways says he will not. And his attitude and talk of possible retirement and low wonderlic score all point to him more than likely not succeeding.

So, explain to me why should I believe he will succeed?

I just don't understand the film your watching. He improved as a passer no doubt from year one to year two. His completion percentage went up 11 percentage points. That is a drastic change. His qb rating was better even though he had fewer tds and more interceptions which would hurt his qb rating. As collins proved this year also, it's not easy to get passing tds in this offense. Our team went to 10-6 in 2007 and he had a qb rating over 100 in 3 out of the last 5 games which, his rookie year he only had a qb rating over 80 in 3 games all season.

I just don't really understand your logic of how you saw him regressing in his 2nd year.

It's very very very very very simple. :ha:

You see, in his second year he had lots of interceptions. Therefore, he regressed. This next year, assuming by some miracle he actually gets to play, if he doesn't throw more ints than TDs then he will have progressed.

Again, you are BOASTING Vince to a level of mediocrity. Here is a list of QB's this season that thre more INTs than TD's (i'm clearly a racist for pointing out how bad these guys were too).

    Marc Bulger 11/13
    Ryan Fitzpatrick 8/9
    Gus Frerotte 12/15
    JT Osullivan 8/11
    JP Losman 2/5

You are attempting to put Vince BARELY above the level of THESE GUYS. I guess when you play SO BAD, it doesn't take much to PROGRESS like you suggest he will.

I'm still looking for someone who threw 8 more picks than TDs as Vince did in his full season. The closest I came up with was Ken Dorsey who threw 0 td's and 7 int's. In your view, if he just offers the Titans an even TD/INT ratio, that's GOOD. Wowwwwwww, mediocrity wins every time

The problem with Vince cant really be summarized by stats imo. I really liked the pick back when we drafted him. And the impact he had on this team his rookie year was more then i had hoped for.
But I think the reason many are worried (myself including) is somewhere in the course of that second season, the fire sort of ran out. The passion in his play was gone, critics started doubting him (maybe he even started doubting himself?) and then it ended on a low note with him trying to pull himself in the playoffs, plus doing the same in the beginning of this season.

Now if Vince can mature, put past mistakes behind him and go forward from here, showing the mental toughness that's needed to play one of the most differcult positions in sports. He will most likely be able to win over the locker room and fans and be a starter again in this league.

In the end. He is a young guy and none of us knows if he has the mental strength to play QB at the pro level, but all the signs lately has shown that not to be the case.

Would anyone be happy with Ken Dorsey starting for the Titans? If it's Vince's legs you're enamored with, why not put a call in to Charlie Ward? I hear Pat White is coming out this year in the draft:(, Maybe Tommy Frazier is still in game-shape?
