    Really interesting stuff, great info!

I actually really like that Jags helmet. The uniforms though did look awful.

The Raven holding the shield with wings spread looks awesome. Wonder why they didn't just use all the Raven.

Another interesting point about the Ravens - they are one of the only teams in the league* that has two distinctly different helmet logos (on either side of the helmet). Most teams in the league just flip (mirror) their logo (e.g. the Falcons, Titans). Some leave it the same on both sides (e.g. the 49ers, Packers).

But, in order to always have the Raven head face forward AND to have the 'B' face forwards, the Ravens require TWO distinct logos:

Almost everyone in the sports logo design community (like me) finds this to be incredibly stupid and a sign of very poor design.

*Edit: I forgot the Chiefs. They do the same thing as the Ravens. I think it works better for the Chiefs, though.

I thought it was the Diamondbacks. Or maybe you're right. One of the two. I remember a few individuals actually registered that as a trademark before the decision was made and even had some swag made to show it off. Yeah, ultimate fail.

Yeah, they registered it and screwed any chance they had of making it a reality. The reason I remember Copperheads is because the helmet was basically just a plain copper colored helmet. The color scheme and uniform was a Notre Dame rip.

I came across two rumors during that time period regarding team identities and while both of them hold true, I'm not sure if they are actually acknowledged.
    1) The NFL discourages the use of reptiles as mascots
    2) The NFL doesn't allow teams to use a nickname that is singular (like the Heat or Magic).

Found primarily around Oil Derricks? I don't get the use of Copperheads with an Oil Derrick logo (as shown in the link previously)

I don't think anyone quite understood the tie in and it was a mistake to try to keep the oil derrick. It was there just as an appeasement idea to current ownership.

The image is accurate, but they had an actual prototype made and you could barely see the oil derrick. At first glance, the helmet looked solid. They thought they were being subtle, but most folks just saw a gold helmet with an Oilers logo.
