If Lendale was moving the ball in the 4th quarter, then I'd have no problem with him getting carriers, but this year, it's not happening yet. Often times we go 3 and out when he's in there. And if that is the playcalling so be it, but when Lendale has been coming in the job is not getting done. I'd like to at least see 2 first downs to waste about 5 minutes; instead of a buck and half and no first downs we get now. CJ has done better in these situations knocking of 5 and 6 yard runs, but he's often inserted after the other team catches up.

I'm more willing to base my assesment of a player off of a full season of stats as opposed to 4 games. With Johnson on the team Lendales role has changed to more of a short yardage back. I don't expect a short yardage back to have a high YPC. I'd be willing to bet almost 10% of Lendales runs have been where 1-2 yards was the max possible.

Until last week, they were pretty much splitting carries right down the middle. Outside of the few carries within the 5, LenDale hasn't been a short yardage back at all. Which is appalling.

For the most part, they are getting the same types of carries with the same o-line blocking for them, and CJ is doubling LenDale's production.

I think this is an interesting topic, and posters that just mockingly say "oh yeah CJ is indestructible he should get all the carries" are just missing the point of this thread.

However, I have some logical (in my view) points to disagree.

A goalline back is always going to suffer a lower YPC. I mean, a 1yard TD is a td, but it does hurt the YPC average. Any goalline carries for that matter.

I also disagree that "any" back could get the TDs. I'm not sure Henry, Ganther or Shaun Alexander get those TDs as easily as LW can.

Also, even though LW isn't "powerful", he's big. And it takes a lot of effort for a defensive to bring that much down. So i think he does wear down the defense some.

And I think against a weak defense, like maybe KC coming up, LW can have a big game. Once the D is worn down, LW should get more yardage later in the game. And it fits our time control offense.

Plus the no fumbles are big in looking at him. I'm not sure any other back starting in LW's place would be able to say that.

So, are there better alternatives out there in the NFL... I think so.

Is there a better alternative on our roster or that is a free agent... I really don't think so.

Isn't a short yardage back at all? I thought your whole point was Lendale has only looked good because he was getting the short goalline TDs. That is a short yardage back. When there are two backs one is going to have better stats than the other. Even if you split carries down the middle one will have more yards than the other. That doesn't mean the other is "hurting" the team. It's only been 4 games. Is 4YPC the magic number for if a RB is hurting or helping his team? How many YPC does Lendale need to get before you consider him a help for the team? What situations does he need to run in before he becomes a help? If he scores 20 TDs at the end of the year but has a 2.7YPC did he hurt the team?

Yes, they show every game on Memphis television, and yes I see him run. Do I think LenDale White needs to improve that number? Yes. Do I think he is a lost cause? No. I've seen White push piles and I've seen White have 10-15 yard runs. Has he had any this year? No. Does it mean he won't? No.

Like what was said above, I will take a year of stats over four games of stats in a new system with a reduced role. The bottom line is the question asked is he helping or hurting. I think he can do better, but he's helping the team more than hurting it.

This quote reminds me of the time Buddy Ryan complained that all Cris Carter did was catch touchdown passes.

and another member who fails to read before he posts..

Chris Carter is a receiver that holds a respectable place in receiving yards and Touchdowns all time lists, LenDale White is a fat runningback that because of playcalling is disguised as someone with a knack for the endzone..I can't see how you can even put LenWhale and Chris Carter in the same sentence.

the only thing that shows is lendale can get to the second level when the o-line creates the type of hole he got at southern cal. you know, the kind that you can drive a truck through.

with that kind of hole Chris Johnson or any other runningback that doesn't have an abnormal gut hanging over his belt would have pranced into the endzone..I find it funny the Linebacker was able to close a 5 yard gap that quickly.
