The differences in that comparison are clear. CJ is a first rounder, and CJ is the fastest man in the NFL. CJ comes with a lot more credibility. Anyone can break a long run, but when a first rounder breaks one it's a sign of what is to come. It's a Sign he won't bust. It's a sign he's going to meet his potential and more. When an undrafted Simon breaks a long run, there's hope he might be ok and have some shelf life. Simon and Autry had no credilbility for long term success. They had no pedigree to think they would be good. This is so different. If you can't get excited about that run, from a 1st round draft pick, who goes untouched for 66, then you got to wonder what can you get excited about. This was big. And not only for CJ, but for the whole team on opening day. Teams now have to defend him, plus CJ has the confidence to know he can run in this league. Huge. Absolutely huge.

When Long was playing for VA last year, he played against MTSU. He stunk. He went up against a True Freshman OT and was shut down. He did nothing that game. Absolutely nothing.
    Long is overrated IMO

Now consider that he really only started in 23 games. I don't even know his kick return numbers. But for sure a 96 yarder is in there.

The hole at the line of scrimmage was created by our O-line and got him to the second level. The next hole was created by his acceleration. The angles the Rams LBs took to try and tackle him would have been perfect for the majority of backs, but CJ's acceleration allowed him to create a hole that others wouldn't have had.

It's the same thing with Devin Hester on kick returns. I get sick of people saying he only has good numbers because he is fast and it's all his blocking. His acceleration creates space that ordinary players don't get.

The LB actually had his hands on CJ

Here you go ..... the Rams LB actually had his hands on CJ but as he did at ECU he acclerates out of his grasp and shoots into the second level of the defense. You haven't seen all his speed yet.

    RollTide:

This wussy arm-tackle would have been a "helmet across the body" solid hit if not for the speed that CJ hit the hole with.

His speed got him though the LOS and then his speed busted him through the second level.

Did the most bias user on gotitans.com just try to call someone out on being a homer? Really? lmao

I'm already too used to this. McNair got the same excuses. "It was a perfect pass! It's the receivers fault! None of them can run routes correctly or catch!!"

    ....enter Billy Volek....

"Uh. Well. Uhhh. It's because that defense was terrible!!"

...enter Kerry F Collins (whom sucks)...

"Uhh...it's the defense! Vince never gets to play bad defenses, only his backup does!"

A 66 yard run doesn't justify anything because long runs like that are so rare in real nfl games but commonplace in the preseason. In short a long run like that is grossly over rated.

The notion put forth by one poster that a 60 yard run somehow matters more for a 1st rd player is silly. No matter who the back is he is accomplishing the same thing.

Question for our resident experts. Let's say that CJ has a long NFL career and carries the ball 2500-3000 times. How many runs of 40 yards or more will he have in that many carries?

    200?
    100?
    50?
    40?

Please give your opinions on this..

ROLL! Look AT THE PLAY! A Rams defender had their arms around CJ. The hole couldnt have been to damn big if a defender had his arms around him. The guy is special.....admit you love it....its ok dumplin!!!!

Yeah, that guy to CJ's right, the one getting mauled by our 2nd string tackle, was the #2 pick of this year's draft. Started out on the right side of the d-line but ends up on the left. :suspect:
